Going on a stag party this weekend and we're doing this in the day. I've never been before so has anyone got any tips for me? Literally any at all will be useful.

Thanks

You want to get in front the clay, not on it!

Keep the gun swinging, dont stop it when you take your shot. Make one smooth swinging motion following they clay then pull slightly infront before firing. Dont worry about recoil, for an adult male its nothing to worry about.

If you fire with the gun moving you produce a string of shot rather than a big cloud giving you a better chance of hitting the target.

Make sure the gun is tight into your shoulder and lean forward a bit to stablise yourself.

Oh, and use the force, dont try to overthink your shots.

Try to aim with both eyes open.

Oh and get your cheek on the stock. Your sight picture should barely contain any barrel, just the bead at the end.

Keep it pulled into your shoulder as tight as you can.
Shoot with both eyes open.
Apart from when you're actually shooting, always keep the gun broken.
Make sure you do the shootin' before the drinkin'
wink

The bar where we're going doesn't open until the shooting has finished so we're safe on that part. hehe

I have a feeling if I enjoy it I'm going to start looking at guns I can't afford.

Was taught by an Uncle many years ago to "Point" with your index finger down the centre of the barrel. When you see the clay "point" at it, follow it and fire. It worked for me. I was smokin clays after 10 min.

If you've shot rifles before then forget everything you know. The way you hold a shotgun and your stance is different. I made this mistake the first time and ended up with a very bruised shoulder.

Been shooting a couple of times and am far from an expert but I have one major point which has been mentioned already.

Don't over think the shot. Don't try and calculate where the clay is going, just point and shoot.

Well, all went pretty well on Saturday, I actually did better than in the morning than the competition we had in the afternoon, so not entirely pleased with the 19/25 I got but could've been worse.

I've definitely taken a liking to it though, been looking into what's needed a licence and taking it up as more of a hobby. Think I may have found a use for some money coming to me soon.

19/25 is pretty good for a first attempt!...that is unless all the pulls were easy straight above your head jobs...!...now, if you were popping low horizon huggers over crests of hills and such like then you're a natural!!

Bit of a mix to be honest, some were low, some high, hardest one I found was one that kind of came towards you on an angle, my brain couldn't compute

Getting a license is actually pretty easy assuming you have your own house and arent a criminal smile

Hi Dan

A similar "how to get started in clay busting" thread was alive a short while ago, I rambled on in that in probably too much detail...but you may find it useful.

Which reminds me, must organise this weekend's outing...

Get yourself a SGC and start a great sport.
The toys that go with it are the best too.
