Another Athlete Dies

Alexander Dale Oen, Norweigian swimming champion, has died of a cardiac arrest. What is it with heart problems in sports people recently?
Recently, we have had footballer Fabrice Muamba, who very nearly died. Then Italian footballer Morosini, who did die a couple of weeks ago. Then Claire Squires, a seemingly fit person running the London marathon who died last week.
Just goes to show, it doesn't matter how healthy you are, if you're numbers up, it's up .

Flavour of the month. Newsreaders with epilepsy then athletes with heart problems. It's manufactured news.
I'd hardly call it 'manufactured news' these people have died. Some press coverage may over hype it, but the fact remains. garyhun said:
It would be interesting to understand the numbers this year in relation to previous years.
Is this a strange bump in the stats or what is normally expected?

For more comprehensive statistics you'll want a journal like the International Journal of Cardiology this is not free but the abstracts are.. http://www.elsevier.com/wps/find/journaldescriptio...

Last time I'm doing HIIT!
I was this morning!!!!!!!!!!In seriousness, I often think about this.
My mother has an extra heartbeat (heart murmur?)
My grandfather, from my Dad's side had a tripple heart bypass, and my grandmother, also from my Dad's side, had angina in the latter stages of her life.
Both my grandmother's died from ovarian cancer, and various other family members have died from cancer too.
It's not looking good for me, is it?!

Lol,unless there's a history of heart disease in the family you'll be OK.If there is then get checked.Anyway, and I don't mean anything by this, but those unfortunates who died because of undiagnosed heart disease well,...y'know...they were doing proper exercise.
