Well, as the title says, thats it. " The LONDON 2012 Olympics".
Thats what it's being promoted as. Nothing what so ever to do with the rest of the UK.

Being a resident of these fair Isle from birth I would have thought it might have been the British Olympics but no. As far as the rest of world is concernd LONDONshire is England.

Well sod them. England is a bigger place, and in my my view, a better place than London alone.

I do apologise for the lack of swear words for a true RANT, but one has standards. smile

Olympics was always promoted by the name of the city that hosts it.

If it was hosted in Leeds, yes.

Fair point. But what I'm trying to get at is there is more to the UK than bloody London.
I know most don't agree but the UK is a great country. Unfortunatly it's let down by a few places.
London being one of them.
There is more to the UK life than tower blocks and inercity life

Londoners are the people that will be hugely disrupted for the 4 weeks or however long it is, so only right that 'they' get the recognition for it rather than the whole country.

Guessing you don't have to try and work/live around it for the 6 weeks of chaos that its going to bring, I've had to be involved in soooo many disruption planning meetings it's taken over the actual job...

You're complaining about there "being more to the UK than London" but then rant, "England is a bigger place than London".

How about the rest of the UK. You're complaining it's labeled as a london Olympics. But then being a bit insular going on about England instead of Britain yourself.

Your point appears to be there's more to the UK than London. There's more to the UK than England too.

Well, please don't feel left out - you're welcome to it. Bring your friends and family down here and take the bloody thing up north in its entirety. We don't want it.

The one thing that sold it for me was that British people in poorer parts of London would finally get employment.

Under European direclegiwhatever, apparently, LOCOG can't specify that jobs must go to British (black, white, yellow, blue) people.

You don't seem to get it. Olympic Games (Summer, Winter and now Youth versions) are hosted by a CITY. Not a country. The organisers are required to host as many of the events in the host CITY as possible, with the obvious exceptions for things like sailing. It's the LONDON Olympics because, despite many other fine cities in the UK, that's the city that's hosting the 2012 Games.

Why the massive chip on the shoulder about London though? I love the UK but I love living in London too. Have you spent any significant time down here, or just nipped down for a weekend, did a couple of touristy things, moaned about crowds on Oxford St, ate at an Angus Steak House and went home again?

Yep, all tower blocks down here rolleyes

But you know, don't come again - you really wouldn't like the desperately grim inner city.
