Following a fairly successful first marathon attempt at 4.20 my wife has decided to branch out into triathalons, and has requested a suitable watch as a birthday pressie.

Any recommendations welcomed!

Highly recommend the Garmin 910 xt. Does everything I need, can measure and display 101 different parameters, and is comfortable and easy to read.

Bought one second hand off ebay but nearly new with footpod and HRM for £325, not a bad price.

Thanks everyone for the advice.

I'm not sure what the footpad is for, it is a GPS watch. I bought mine brand new from Wiggle for £343 with HRM.

Ebay isn't always a bargain.

The footpod allows accurate stride length and pace monitoring, they sell for about 40 quid. The premium HRM is included too, about 40 quid. Which makes the watch seem fair value for money, nice guy selling it

Outdoors Cadence and speed if you want and indoors cadence and more accurate speed/distance if on a treadmill.

Yes we do all stuff outside I I have stuck it on ebay, the 910XT is very good indeed - just starting to get to grips with it I am doing the MK marathon on Sunday and have "borrowed it" from my wife for the day!

I use the footpad outside all the time as a cadence sensor. The new footpod is really small and I just leave it on my running shoes all the time.

I had a great set of data after I tripped over when running the other day. hehe

You can use it just as a cadence sensor or calibrate it for more accurate speed info. I tend to use the GPS for speed and use the footpad just for cadence. If you get a poor GPS signal the watch uses the footpod for speed distance until the signal resumes.

Some good info here.

and about the footpod in particular.
