In his final game for Wales against Australia a few months back, the magician signed off in style with an outstanding try in the last play of the game.

This evening, in his final home game for the Ospreys before retirement, he's only gone and done it again. Beautiful step and line break to score the vital bonus point winning try. Oh, and he also stuck the conversion over!

Shane Williams. 87 Wales caps, 59 tries. True great of the modern game. I salute you.

Edit: FFS, can a mod thumb this up? Damn iPhone hehe

Its a shame to lose someone as special as him but glad he has gone while he can still do it. If he overstayed being the size and style he is it could ruin both his rep and him physically. A true true great and in 20 years time we can tell our kids/grandkids that the new poster boy has nothing on shane just like they do to us now about the 70's team :-)

Fully agree - special player.

I would also like to point out that another great of the modern day game is retiring this weekend, just a shame that Martyn Williams is not getting the send off he deserves.

In the words of Max Boyce - "I was there" smile

Very special night with one of the, if not the biggest crowd of the season.

Flankers never get that at the end. They invariably are left to shuffle off semi injured or old dogs slinking away.

You are quite right. Another outstanding servant to Wales and as Jiffy says - both players would be shoe-ins for all time Welsh XVs - and what more can you say about them?

We'll done to them both, excellent players.

I did have a chuckle when it was mentioned Shane could be playing for Amman united next year in Division 4 West, he'll run that league ragged!!

You can imagine the mid week training sessions and pre match pep talks will be totally focused on getting the ball straight to shane! hehe

I manged to time my trip back home to Swansea to coincide with the Ospreys game (mrs thought it could have been more than luck.......) and what a send off for Shane, brilliant atmosphere and the noise when he scored AND converted his try, really did make the hairs on the back of your neck rise!!

Would you believe it!!

Rabo league final, Leinster v Ospreys in Ireland. One try already to his name and the Ospreys 30-24 down in the 78th minute and he pops up with the match winning try (Biggar put the kick over from the touch line)!

Awesome.

I have no words!

I have several very good words about the ref - unfortunately none that I'd wish to publish on here. wink

WHEN ARE REFS GOING TO LEARN HOW TO REFEREE THE SCRUM?

Anyway - brilliant performance by the O's, going into the backyard of the newly crowned European Champions and dogging out a win smile

His last ever professional game of rugby and he scores two tries, one right at the death to help seal the victory and the win the title. That's all you need to know about Shane, one of the all-time Welsh greats.
