What bat do you use?
Discussion
In retirement now but was always a fan of the Slazenger myself. Started with a V12 select, then a V100, then a V2000 limited edition. However my final bat was a Gray Nicholls Powerdrive
Always around the 2lb 8oz mark with double rubbers on a short handle. Opened the batting so was never a fan of the bottom heavy bats and found a lot of the bats from the sub continent lacking in feel and balance.
My club folded about 4 years ago and I drifted away. Tempted to make a comeback though while I am still a reasonable age

Recently invested in a Gray Nicolls GN100. It is basically a modern version of the 'Scoop'.
It is medium weighted but the centre of gravity is fairly high, so it feels lighter than it measures.
Only had net use so far, but on the few occasions I've timed the shot, it feels lovely.
It replaces my 25 year old SS Viv Richards.

Heh!
We are not that sort of club - but we have that reputation I suppose. Mainly because we've always been a fairly 'old' club most of our players tended to be financially settled etc.
Anyway, things have changed. THe 2nd team, in particular is apparently a lot of fun. Many of the guys really enjoy the craic and just enjoy themselves.

Sounds interesting. As I said, do you play Saturday or Sunday? Be nice to know some people over that way as I may end up living over there in a year or soWe are not that sort of club - but we have that reputation I suppose. Nice...that was an SS Jumbo wasn't it ? The must have bat for every 80's schoolboy until the Magnum came along! I have a V12 of that era.....which I used til I hung my boots up about 10 years ago. I'm a bowler so it didn't get much use and being a proper piece of willow aged very well.....though a couple of people borrowed it off me over the years and put it to very good use.Cheib said:

You're forgetting the SS Turbo 333, along with the pads with the round knee cutoutsYou'll be telling us you had buckskin pads next (my first pair)
Bizarrely enough I was left handed back then and not very good. Ended up batting ten in the U15's and won the bowling averages. I swapped to right handed at 15, ended up opening at U15 and 2nd XI, batting 3 for the U17 and representing the league as an opening bat by the end of that season and scored over 1000 runs combined
No idea why I was left handed for the first 3 years of my career
Turbo 333 is a bit "new".
In the back catalogue at home we have a Cyril Washbrook, an SS Jumbo and a Magnum. The Washbrook is a plank of oak, the Jumbo has a relatively narrow middle now, but by common consensus of various players at the various clubs over the lasst few yrs, still has the meatiest middle of any bat any of us know. The Magnum I bought to replace the Jumbo, daft to think that its now knocking on 20 yrs old! The Jumbo is probably 30 yrs old now, started out as my brother's bat.

I didn't have buckskin pads myself but do remember them....as I do those useless gloves with the green spikey rubber! Oh and those pink plastic boxes.........
Then of course there were the SP bats as used by Tony Greig I think....though they were more 70's.
