Hey.

Theres an army surplus near me that has recently started stocking AEG airsoft guns. They're all very sexy and expensive but ive been looking into it.

I've always wanted to join up, but I dont like the idea of getting my legs blown off. The more serious airsoft sites call them selves 'military simulation sites' and such-like and they run 24h 'skirmish's'. Me and a couple of mates love the idea of it as we all enjoy paintball but would love a more tactical experience. Plus, it seems alot cheaper than paintball.

Does anyone on PH airsoft? And if so, would there be any advice to a new recruit. I know I need to attend 3 skirmishs to apply to UKARA to get the all black replica guns etc

Does anybody have any experiences with different makes and models of AEG, good or bad, id love to hear about them.

Cheers guys.

I played a lot up until a few years ago, there was a site on Anglesey that a crowd of us went to fairly regularly. Everybody there used ICS guns. They are full metal replicas and the internal workings are also metal, it's meant to prolong the life of the guns. I've got an M4 somewhere, I think the spring is worn, it was really under powered last time I used it.

It does hurt, the first time I went some lad got hit in the mouth. It blew the back of his tooth off leaving the veneer! Apart from that it's good fun, just remember to keep your gob shut.

I used to go a lot when it wasn't so popular, then people started turning up who actually thought they were soldiers - very worrying.

As mentioned on the bf3 thread, I'm going for the first time tomorrow.

Good friend of mine has become mildly obsessed, so looking forward to it.

I'll post pics of the bruises up tomorrow night....

Have fun sway I cant wait to get started once I have some free money.

Reckom im going to go for a G&G Combat machine for a first gun, I only read good things about G&G, and the CM range looks great value for money. Probably get the CQW rush.

Used to go regulaly to on in Leicstershire, went to Ground Zero Weekender last summer, amazing weekend after not going to the local site for ages.

Still not got round to a first game for this year, started working Sundays unfortunatly, still it's a good 'sport' the way I see it is, it's like playing COD/BF but gets you outside, gives you a run around and a chance for a bit of a laugh, the over the top would be military types are rather anoying though.

So I went for the first time on Sunday.

Good site, seemed quite small, but was very well thought out.

Given a brand spanking new m4 using Lipo batteries, which gave a really good rate of fire.

Seems the hours on battlefield were well spent, was hitting loads of people, while not getting shot a lot, and calling out opposition movements etc. Got asked if I wanted to join two separate teams, so obviously looked like I had a bloody clue what I was doing!

However, and its the reason why no matter how much I enjoyed it, I wouldn't ever take it up properly - the fktards who wanna be military, but won't do it for real.

I was wearing a pair of black combats, boots, and a t shirt. Goggles and a vest to hold spare magazines. Most of my team were the same, except they were wearing dpm combats (fair enough).

The other team on the other hand had four guys who were kitted out exactly like a specific unit. Berets with cap badges when not playing, full tactical helmets with mikes/visors, the lot. Fully kitted out molle vests, again with unit badges, pistol holster, magazine holsters, hydration packs, the list goes on. They took it so seriously they wouldn't call out when hit, so I would typically fire a couple of shots semi auto. Realise that whilst they could clearly feel the hit, they weren't accepting them. So would switch to full auto and unload until they squealed and finally accepted they had to walk 100 metres to the respawn then come back out.

fking ridiculous. I asked one middle aged guy if the mike on his helmet worked, as I couldn't hear them calling to each other. Was told it didn't even work. When I asked him why he bothered with the helmet at all, was told 'because it looks cool'.

I must beg to differ.

Those guys (and from the sample of 30 it was around 20) would do my fking head in constantly.

They weren't even good. In a rush style game we cleared the three bases in 12 minutes. Took them 55 to do the same thing.

All the gear, no idea.

But, every couple of months I think I'll go. I'll probably get my own goggles and better combats/boots. As for the rest, if I wanted to be in the army, I'd sign up. Would love to see a member of the regiment they were pretending to be in meeting these guys, they'd get beaten for taking the absolute piss.

Very true, and reading my post back it's more negative than it should be.

The 'game' - great
The weapons - well they piss all over paintball guns!
The enjoyment - well I know you know the feeling you get as you're playing one of those epic bf3 games where it all comes together both individually and as a team...
The 'geardo' guys - bloody irritating, and a bit odd. It just seems like they take it a bit too seriously, which sucked a bit of the enjoyment out of it, and I'm not patient enough to not say something if I was playing regularly...

One thing I forgot to mention was two guys who came over from Salisbury. They play a competitive variant with 5 man teams. Impression I got from others was that this form is bloody intense, and takes a serious amount of skill.

They were a joy to play with and learn from. Not taking it too seriously, but playing to win. They started on our team, then got switched to the others to help even out the skill level.

In one game I was in cover, basically distracting 4 players who knew where I was, couldn't hit me, but weren't willing to rush me to take me out. From the other side I hear shots coming my way. It was one of these guys.

His battery was running low, so his shots were falling short. Mine was better, and could just about reach him. Of course, by the time my pellets were getting to him they were travelling pretty slowly....

So for about 30 seconds he was dancing avoiding my shots, with me adjusting my aim to where he had just moved. A sneaky switch to double tapping, and he jumped into my pellet. He instantly acknowledged it, and we had a quick laugh. He bloody got me good and proper when he had respawned though!

THAT was the perfect scenario, and if all the players played like that to have fun, and win, then I'd be persuading the missus to let me buy the nicest gun I could so I could play all the time.

Oh, and getting his mate bang in the centre of his forehead as it popped out of cover sent me jumping around whooping.... Only for his wingman to riddle me with pellets....

Unfortunately, I just got the impression that it attracts a high percentage of people who think they're in a wooded Helmand, when actually they'd struggle with a bit of verbal banter.

I will be going again (next time I'll go to Virus, a disused wing of a hospital) for some CQB action. I gather the brutality level is taken up a notch, and a lot of the guys who want to look like action man, but don't like getting hit by a bloody plastic bb don't go as its a bit too much like proper blokey painful fun!

I've been airsofting a few times , but always feel a bit of a weirdo playing soldiers.
There's a site in plymouth run by a ex marine, that's good when serving marines turn up, the speed the clear rooms etc is unreal.
Regarding the cqb don't be too much of a hero, up close it does hurt and people do loose teeth.
Lastly if you want a laugh go to a indoor cqb venue with mates in day glo 80's ski wear, camo stuff doesn't work as your all so close to each other.

Don't worry, I copped a couple at close range on my thigh, I know it bloody hurts!

I'd also wear a full mesh face mask, as opposed to the goggles I wore for woodland.

I'd love to play with proper serving military who engage in that sort of stuff (special forces only?) - I find watching and playing with people far better than me ups my skill level very swiftly.

I love Battlefield 3, and love playing with great players, even though I'm below average. The game is more fun, and I learn more, which improves my enjoyment level forevermore.

Problem sometimes is recognising those who appear good, those who think they're good, and those who are actually good.

Much like life in general I find..

I also played at a cqb place on portland, it was a old factory with offices and they were just using it until it was flattened.
There was a couple of infantry chaps there and they were quick clearing rooms too. Even after they had done it a few times so we knew how they were going to it, they were still so, so quick.
Door, flash bang, hit, hit, hit and were all out.
Not sure where your from but the magistrates courts in bristol is a pretty unique venue, complete with docks and cells.

I'm south coast, and work away from home all week, so can't justify travelling too far.

Cheers for the heads up though, as its likely I'll work in Bristol at some point in the next year.

There seems to be a lot of sites near me, catering for all tastes.

'Bunker', an old cold war nuclear bunker near Southampton looks like a load of fun, especially on their 'zombie apocalypse' theme nights...
