Divers? Anyone else?
Discussion
I guess it's a sport.
Any other Scuba divers here?
I'm pretty new to it, having got my PADI OW in November 2010 in Sharm El Sheikh.
I did a few diving courses in the UK last winter/spring and then some dives in the lovely Wrasbury lake.
I did an AOW 'course' (not really much of a course compared to OW) in Madeira, but have recently joined my local BSAC club and am looking to cross-train onto Sport Diver over the next few months.
Anyone else?

PADI OW here after doing 8 previous dives on intro to scuba in various locations that I was not staying at long enough to do OW (Gili Trwangan and Dahab to name 2)
Got it in Dahab and hope to return to go and get the AOW choosing nitrox as one of the courses so I can stay under for longer, would also like to do the photography and camera work... maybe a deep dive too.
Don't like the idea of a night dive.

OW here. Did mine in Thailand on a RTW trip about 6 years ago. Went on to do a liveaboard out of Cairns on which we did a night dive - bloody scary as a hurricane was coming in (seriously) and the water was a nightmare, we had to go in off the side of a tender as the main boat was chopping about too much. We only had about half a dozen dives under our belt at that point and to have sharks sweep into your torchlight in the dark is effing scary st! hornetrider said:

Leaving the DM and OH with 2 of the smallest torches known to man.
Lots of octopi coming in and out of what little light about 2/3 ft from your face, in addition they had and stuff brushing against them as they swam is not my idea of having fun.

You do know that the nitrox element of AOW isn't enough to qualify you on Nitrox, I take it? It might count as part qualification to complete, but it's a bit pointless as part of the AOW, IMO, especially as you can do it as a 'dry course'.Got it in Dahab and hope to return to go and get the AOW choosing nitrox as one of the courses so I can stay under for longer, would also like to do the photography and camera work... maybe a deep dive too.

SSAC Diver when I was younger did every weekend for years all over Scotland and the Islands.
Midnight free descents into 30mtrs of dark cold sea is fun, not for the claustrophobic or wimps.
Sitting on the bottom eating Mars Bars and drinking Irn Bru was fun too.
I miss it but too old and unfit these days.

Very relaxed and friendly place, however they did pursuade me to ride a camel. My testicles still haven't recovered.
My club went to Truk and Palau just before I joined. Some video footage here:

There are a load of photos somewhere on the net but I can't find them at the moment. One of the lads took loads of video footage with his HD camcorder and housing.

To do the AOW, you have to do a deep dive and a navigation dive plus any 3 of your choosing. This qualifies you to 30m. I'm not 100% on this but I believe you can do a nitrox dive as one of the 'adventure dives' but it won't make you nitrox qualified. The PADI nitrox course is a dry course that you can do in an evening.Got it in Dahab and hope to return to go and get the AOW choosing nitrox as one of the courses so I can stay under for longer, would also like to do the photography and camera work... maybe a deep dive too.

I wouldn't bother with the photography one as it doesn't teach you much about diving. Although it is useful to learn about photography, it is nothing you can't learn from books and fellow divers without 'Putting Another Dollar In'. I would recommend doing the Peak Performance Buoyancy, Wreck and any other of your fancy.
If you do the full deep speciality, you need to do 3 more dives and you are qualified to 40m.
Here are some of the Truk photos. These are what I've just nicked off a couple of the lads' Facebook pages. I think there is a Piccasa upload somewhere. One of the lads showed me all the photos on his MacBook - there's about 2000 in total and the video footage has been edited together.
As you can see, they are diving twins using EANx50 for accelerated deco. Most the wrecks are pretty deep.
