Watching the Luge on the telly box today. (actually, the double Luge, which is slightly uncomfortable viewing)

That's the one where they lie feet first in a bodystocking on a tea tray and hurtle down the mountain.

Just before they do the push off thing they lower the visor, which looks like a close fitting bowl over their whole face.

Why doesn't it steam up?

My Sparco visor can steam up at the drop of a hat. Do they hold their breath?

Pinlock? possibly washing up liquid. Either way as soon as they get some air flow over the visor it'll clear.

I use a visor for hockey, I smear shower gel or washing up liquid over it before hitting the ice which solves the steaming issue smile

Happy that's my trick as well for hockey, although the newer visors have a special coating. Where do you play

I've heard the gel and washing up liquid tricks before and I can understand how they work on some masks.

The luge visor is different though. I fits VERY close to the face and is sealed on 3 sides by the way it fits in a rebate on the helmet.

See, I would have thought that any sort of breathing out would be enough to steam it up.

Incidently, this is the best pic I could find to show the visor and it's a chap who I understand sadly lost his life doing this, so my pic is included with all due respect.

Some bobsleigh drivers use goggles rather than visors, but now anti-fog visors have been developed, the number who use the less aerodynamic goggles has lessened.

Luge is for pussies - skeleton is a REAL sliding sport.

Never got on with it myself - prefer Nikwax Visor Proof - even then I use a pinlock and still get misting v.cold days.

They could even be double glazed. Perfect solution!
