Just retired from international- one week into a major campaign which he was selected for.

WTF is going on?

I heard mention of this on the radio this morning and I've a vague recollection of hearing the phrase 'hounded out by the media' (I might have imagined this though as I was still waking up). I know it was his kick that was charged down by Hodgson for the try, but if that were the case, it seems excessively harsh...

Scotland fans have been praying for him to retire for about 60 matches, it's not a recent thing.

His first instinct is always to kick and when he doesn't, the passing is very stilted and predictable. I know we're not blessed with a surplus of dashing 3/4s but he could at least give them decent ball once in a while.

True.

Still a shame he's retired, very dependable penalty-conversion kicker

You dont get 60 odd caps for being a duff player. You also dont get 3 Man of the match awards in one 6 Nations Championship for being a bad player. I like Parks as much as the next guy but I hope some of the younger talent can come through now. He has been instrumental in mentoring and developing many Glasgow and Scotland players including the 2 Glasgow stand offs who are now vita lto Scotlands comeback.
I feel sorry for him that he feels he has been pressured into quitting his country for good! No Patterson, no Parks - who will kick the penalties now as Scotland can't score tries!

Scotland can't score tries because of Parks. He's a great kicker but he doesn't create play. It's the same in other sides Parks has played for. I think many Scotland fans will be happy to see him go and force Scotland to play a more flowing passing game instead of this kicking grinding anti rugby that only gets a win now and then.

He is a brilliant player, but i will admit, I'm happy to see him go.

We lost at the weekend for him making a wrong choice to kick the ball,
we also lost in the world cup because we had ADVANTAGE, and he tried a drop goal, messed up!
if he hadn't done that, we would have got penalty and then he'd have done fine!

Brilliant Kicker when everything is set up, but not to be relied upon when mid game.

Scotland can score tries, look at the speed Blair has, he does a chip and run and clears almost all the players.

I wish him all the best in what ever he chooses to do, i thank him for everything that he has done but sadly he has left with a tarnished reputation.

I fear this is right. He can't take pressure and, seemingly, can't pass the ball - except to Foden as he proved so often on Saturday. He was second choice on Sat.

It is a shame that his humiliation was so public but it's a risk you take when you accept the cap. I don't know what the Scottish press did to him but the English press were critical but not OTT.
