Telegraph headline reads:

Dwarf left paralysed after being thrown by drunken Rugby fan

Text reads:

"Martin Henderson [the dwarf] - celebrating his 37th birthday with friends - was thrown into the air by a hooded thug in a copycat of the shamed England rugby star Mike Tindall's behaviour in the summer."

No apparent support for the suggestion that the offender was a ruby fan apart from the suggestion that he followed the example of the shamed England rugy player who didn't throw a dwarf.

I notice that the police spokesperson can't bring him/herself to utter the word 'Dwarf'.
'small person' indeed. rolleyes

And I agree that there is precious little evidence that this incident had anything whatsoever to do with Rugby.

In the 70s there was a reception for some of the Star Wars extras in the Great Eastern hotel. A lot of the attendees were dwarfs, one of whom suffered a heart attack.

A PC attended and at well over 6' found himself a little embarassed. He did not want to use the term midget, even then falling into the non-PC bracket, so asked one of them: 'What do I call you?'

The chap replied: 'Kevin.' (Or whatever.)

The PC said that 'Kevin' didn't tack offence and they seemed to get on quite well. He said it was a mistake he would neer make again.

I don't know why people get so precious about it. There is a small person with whom I am quite friendly in my college class. He refers to himself as a dwarf. He acts in panto at Christmas every year and told me that using children ( 'bloody kids') in Snow White has left a great many theatrical dwarfs out of work at what is usually a lucrative season.
