Finally got my interview for the 21st Jan.
Any other Olympic volunteers out there? and if so do you have a role yet?

I was accepted into the "transport team". In my invitation to an interview email, I was informed that I would have to be available "24/7" during the games, to transport athletes and/or officials to and from the various sites.

I declined the interview.

Yes one of my neighbours has that gig. She was quite excited about the prospect of driving a BMW though (do they make a minibus?). No mention of any particular team in my invitation email.

Still waiting on the result of my interview, for the transport team.
A few tips - check out your application online before you go to refresh your memory as to how wonderful you say are, be prepared to be interviewed by a dork who asks rapid fire questions in random order, who writes in CAPITALS and cannot spell (I was - my 30 minute interview lasted 10 minutes) and recap on any points that you think may have been missed. I was asked about my favourite Olympic event (and why), an occasion when I made a difference to others (and how), what you can bring to the role.
If you are selected there are three further "orientation" events that you need to attend at your cost (living in Somerset, as I do, four trips to London aint cheap).
You will not get an immediate response - I was interviewed in late November and have yet to hear.

Finally, go for it - you've offered to help out at what is probably the biggest event to take place in our lifetime, quality volunteers should make the difference between success & failure, you are playing your part in making it happen (there are many who, despite having the skill & time, will be sitting at home and benefiting from us)so ignore the cynics.
Good Luck!

I got a "transport team" invite too. Blowed if I'm going to volunteer weeks of my holiday to drive people around - I'm sure there are thousands of unemployed people with all the time in the world to sit in traffic jams and stand in the wind and rain for free!

I have plenty of skills I would like to have put to use, but the entry form was extremely limited so I'm sure what I managed to fit in was missed completely.

edit: Two friends applied in different categories, one I think was placed doing medal presentation setup, the other something to do with the press office. Oh yes, another was pressured into giving more time, they wanted 40 days! I think he ended up at 30, IIRC his employer is giving extra time off.
