The Guardian said:
England's new temporary head coach, Stuart Lancaster, has pledged to reform "the culture" of the national team after the Rugby World Cup failure. He also said he would discard any players who lack the requisite character. Lancaster intends to select more young players in his Six Nations squad and he will challenge them to restore the good name of English rugby.
...
"If people don't tick the character and talent box, then there are 100 players who want to play for England," he said, adding that England had enough good young players to move on from their World Cup failure. "I don't worry in the slightest about the mind-set of the players. I'd like to think the players we select are going to be hugely motivated to put it right. If we give a strong enough reason to the players about why it's important to be responsible and be respectful of the rose then everything falls into line behind that."

What's everyone's opinion on this?

It sounds to me like he has the right attitude to turn the team around, and get them back to their winning ways. Having a younger team is definitely the right way to go, and will probably mean we'll see the likes of Wilkinson and Tindall out of the team. I think Johnson's loyalty to his 2003 team mates affected his choice of players, which in turn affected the team's performance.

It also sounds like Lancaster has a no-bullst attitude, which the team definitely need. Hopefully he can bring some discipline back, which there was a distinct lack of in the World Cup. Particularly from you, Matt fking Stevens.

I suppose this year's Six Nations will be the true test for him to see if he can turn the team around. Bring it on! smile

It can't be a bad thing. At the elite level, a lot of performance is down to attitude and desire rather than physical ability anyway.

Has there been any change in who he (the England manager) reports to? I.e. does he report to the Chief Exec only, or the leech that is Rob Andrew?

don't think anything has changed Melchett, the rot is still at the top, and IMHO until they remove RA nothing will change.

I also see the RFU have back tracked on the no English players who ply their trade overseas will be picked, Lancaster is already talking about possibly giving Danny Cipriani a chance

Any surprises?
No Banahan or Armitage, a bit of a surprise for me. I know he acts like a spoilt brat, but Armitage had a good 6 nations.

England's 32-man Elite Player Squad for the Six Nations Championship:

Forwards: M Botha (Saracens), C Clark (Northampton Saints), A Corbisiero (London Irish), D Cole (Leicester Tigers), T Croft (Leicester Tigers), L Deacon (Leicester Tigers), P Dowson (Northampton Saints), D Hartley (Northampton Saints), C Lawes (Northampton Saints), J Marler (Harlequins), L Mears (Bath Rugby), B Morgan (Scarlets), T Palmer (Stade Francais), C Robshaw (Harlequins), M Stevens (Saracens), R Webber (London Wasps), D Wilson (Bath Rugby), T Wood (Northampton Saints).

Backs: C Ashton (Northampton Saints), B Barritt (Saracens), M Brown (Harlequins), L Dickson (Northampton Saints), O Farrell (Saracens), T Flood (Leicester Tigers), B Foden (Northampton Saints), C Hodgson (Saracens), J Simpson (London Wasps), C Sharples (Gloucester Rugby), D Strettle (Saracens), M Tuilagi (Leicester Tigers), J Turner-Hall (Harlequins), B Youngs (Leicester Tigers).

Suprised that Ben Morgan made it, I wouldn't have thought he was on the English radar TBH.

they changed their mind about no players will be picked who don't play in England then?

Good to see Phil Dowson finally get some recognition. I think it's been quite some time since Saints have had the largest contingent in an England squad. 2 in the saxons team too

Hello chaps, think it was the RWC since I last posted here.

Lack of a true/natural open side flanker hasn't been addressed, although Easter has been having a great domestic season IMO he's always been lacking something at international level for me. It's refreshing to see I'll say say that much, as in it's nice to see a lot of new/young blood.

I think what will be key although obvious is to keep flexibke and pick players on form. Front 3 on paper look a bit weak.

I hope (and think they will) step up and play some exciting rubgy and do well in the 6N going to be a tough one especially going to Murrayfield first up.

I couldn't agree more. Our front row is the biggest weakness, corbisiero has never performed at test level and marler is going to get reamed!

My worry is around the props aswell.

Im also starting to worry about Dan Cole. He doesnt seem to be pushing on as I would have liked/was expected. I think we have discussed that before though.
