Hi, Just wondering with the 2012 6 nations just round the corner next year I was wondering which websites the great people at PH use to get their tickets. I've never been to a match before even though I've played the sport for well over 10 years! So any advice would be much appreciated! smile

Cheers in advance! biggrin

I usually buy mine direct from the WRU website, but haven't gone to a match for several years so not sure if it's still possible.

Me too, the only ones you will really struggle with are the England home games (and now Ireland).

The Scotland RU website always have tickets available and they are very reasonably priced whereas the WRU can be pretty pricey (I am a Wales fan so only go to Edinburgh every 2 years)

France is do-able through the French website as is Italy (although google translate / an Italian speaker was required last time we did this)
Paris is not the best venue as everyone disperses into the city (a bit like London) after the game but Rome is superb.

Ireland at the new stadium will be impossible, we struggled massively to get them for Croke park even though we always managed to pick a few up for the old Lansdowne rd. They have totally clamped down on tickets changing hands in Dublin so you need to have some before you travel.

If you don't manage to get tickets directly, you can be lucky in pubs before the game but this is hard to rely on.

Otherwise, there are companies (we use Gullivers) who do deals for tickets and hotels (and travel) if you want to. They look after you and guarantee a good weekend.

Following the rugby for the 6 nations is one of the best sporting things you can do.... but be aware, you will get totally hooked and want to go every year.

With the emphasis on the bold above, can you not get them through your club's allocation? I was quite surprised at how relatively easy they were to get through ours, although I suspect the ever-rising ticket prices may have something to do with that. Top tickets running at around a pound a minute are painful! frown

When I lived in Edinburgh, I just bought them through the sru site. They go up for sale quite early though so struggled to get England and sometimes France tickets, but the best atmosphere in the ground was always the welsh and the Irish so happy with that.

You'll almost always be able to get autumn tour tickets unless it's new Zealand as well so that might be an option for you as well.

I can only speak about the situation at Twickenham.
As previously stated, try your club allocation, England Supporters Club and finally Ticketmaster (RFU's agent).
England senior home games are difficult to get tickets for. Your best bet for 2012, will be the game against Fiji in early November.
As far as 6 Nations go, it's blue teams away in 2012, which means we have Wales and Ireland at home; the Ireland match being on Paddy's Day - good luck getting a ticket for thar one! Wales and Ireland always attract strong money and will do next year after their RWC performances.

In the Autumn of 2012, it's Fiji first, then SA, NZ and Aus (cant remember the order though).
For those games, it's always worth a look on Gumtree, as there are loads of southern hemisphere people over here and they manage to getv tix through their home Unions. They often get the tix, but then their travel plans change. I often manage to pick up extra tix on their, but not until the week before the game.

Best of luck!!

As others have said, if it's England tickets at Twickenham you're after then try your club. Otherwise join the England rugby supporters club.

I've never failed to get tickets I wanted in the 8 or so years I've been a member. They run a ballot which I've only ever won once. What then usually happens is the members get first dibs on any returns that come back from the clubs and they run a priority booking period on Ticketmaster.

I've never had problems getting whatever tickets I've wanted this way.

Sorry to ask more questions but I am flying in from the States to watch the England v Wales match.

I also did not win the lottery for tickets through the RFU. When do the returned tickets go on sale usually? You mentioned that you have always been able to get tickets and I'm hoping you might point me in the right direction smile

I'm an ex pat with all my family still living in Cornwall. Any help from anybody would be much appreciated from anybody. Plane tickets and hotel is booked but still looking for tickets.

Thanks to anybody that might be able to help in way they can.

Thanks so much
Robin

Sounds like you're a member of the supporters club? Make sure you're signed up to the email news. That's how they will tell you when they have tickets available.

I wouldn't expect to hear anything until early January now and it could be later than that. They usually give you a couple of days notice.

What also sometimes happens is that a week before the game they have a number of single seat tickets come up. These are single seats dotted around the stadium. It means you can't sit with whoever you might go with but it's another way of getting in.

The only other way is to see if there are any box match packages left. They are plenty of £££ though but if money is no object...!

You can chance your arm on the day with the touts but I personally wouldn't go there

I'm hoping to get tickets for the Ireland game myself.

Yes, we are members and do get emails from the RFU as we received the ones saying we weren't selected for the ballot (boo).

Thanks for all of your feedback, it's helpful to be able to get advice from someone who has done it before. We entered our first ballot last year and were selected, guess we didn't realize how lucky that was!

Would you suggest waiting until the first or second week of January to see if we hear anything from the RFU before making a purchase elsewhere? Seems suspicious that these 'resell' sites have all these tickets posted with no section or seat number. How do these people even know they have tickets or what side of the pitch they are on?

As for the hospitality groups, they all have spots available still but say the same thing, they won't know where the seats are until January.

Thanks again for your input, any more information or advice is much appreciated!

I've only ever been successful once in 8 years on the ballot. The supporters club isn't allocated many tickets, but it does get first dibs on all the returns from the clubs which is your best chance.

Resell sites will not get tickets from official channels so they have no idea where they will be. They generally get their tickets from the clubs through members that sell their tickets on. It's against all the RFU rules but they let it slide because that's just what the RFU are like! It's not what you know, it's who you know.

The RFU sells (or it's agents do) hospitality tickets which includes food usually and these are offical and above board but like I say they are ££££

Basically like I've said, to do it officially, you have no other choice than to wait for any returns to come up through the supporters club. Anything else is chancing it.

Beware sellers on ebay or any other auction site. The RFU is very hot on these and they WILL cancel tickets if they find them for sale. You'll pay your money, turn up and find someone else in your seat. At this point you'll be asked to leave!

Good luck!

Cheers mate I really appreciate you taking the time to answer all our questions........We owe you a pint if we get to go to the same match in the future!

Looking forward to a new generation of "running rugby" with all the young talent we have coming up through the clubs.

Cheers again mate, and good luck getting a ticket for the Ireland match.

With Twickenham and the Millennium Stadium if you are willing to risk it you can usually buy tickets off touts / people with spare tickets just before kick off for a fraction of the face value - I have done this loads of times without any problems.

Very often the 4 Welsh regions have spare tickets which they will advertise via their websites in the run up to games, if it's a Welsh game you want to get to.

What I have done for the past couple of years is become a member of my local club in Bristol which guarantees me a pair of tickets for every England home game to £100 per annum, plus the cost of the tickets.

There are always tickets out there, you just have to do a bit of looking to find them!
