Never noticed that --will watch out.

I love 'arrers'.

Probably don't want to damage it and bring their career to a shuddering halt

Damage what? Their arm...? Which bit of tendon or ligament are you referring to?

Seriously, why do all of the top flight dart players do this?

Perhaps because the other hand is the hand you hold the darts in when you come to throw, so it feels natural and makes sense to use this hand to pluck the darts from the board and then hold them in that hand ready for the next throw?

Aye... but...

Let's face it, most people are 'handed' - you know they do most stuff with one hand, be it writing, wking, throwing.... so why ALWAYS pull the arrers out with the hand that didn't chuck em in?

I get your point, but just thinking about it I throw right handed but would pull the darts out of the board left handed. I'm pretty sure there are more important things to be debating but I seem to be getting drawn in. laugh

Because it's easier to leave the Oche/throwing area?

They all turn right after collecting their darts to allow the other bloke to throw so collecting with their left hand is just quicker.

I think it's more to do with muscle memory, in that the throwing arm only ever learns/remembers how to throw and not pull...

James Wade - throws left handed. Picks the darts from the board left handed. Spotted it last night. Myth Busters - this myth is busted.

Think about it for one second, without laughing. Let's say you are playing in the world championships, and your flight comes out as the dart goes into the board. You reach out with your throwing hand, absent mindedly, and cut your finger. Theoretically, it could put you off your game, and when there is £120k at stake, why run the risk??

This is all hypothesis of course, but it's a possibility smile

I like possibility's... that's a good one.

I'm standing by waiting for a top flight dart thrower to come on here and tell it like it really is.... hehe

My money is still on the 'muscle memory' reason.
