Hoping someone knows more than me about what sort of equipment is currently available and could make me a wonderful recommendation? smile

Simple situation: I've got a conventional pop-up legged golf bag that I use on the course / range. I have a full set + lob wedge + putter.

I'm after something I can use to take approx 4 irons, 1 wood and a putter: a) down to the range, or b) abroad by plane

So it needs to be something:
- light (weight)
- secure (for checking in on a flight)
- proper enough to be taken seriously at courses while abroad

Any suggestions? All the pencil bags seem to be open topped so can't be checked in on a flight :/

Thank you!

Why can't you just buy a flight bag and take the whole set - if you're paying for/getting sports equipment as part of the ticket, you might as well take everything?

If you dont mind paying through the nose, Persimon do a nice leather carry case, with a closeable top, but if it's anything like their clubs, it will be expensive. Apparently, it's £110

Agree with bingo re: taking the clubs on holiday. You are as well getting a flight bag and taking the full lot. Firstly regarding price and secondly protection and size and ability for the hamfisters to throw your clubs around.

for taking a few clubs out on the course you can get a Titleist bag for around £30 that is perfect for the job.

Get a flight bag - baggage handlers are not the most respecting of clubs.

Yep, buy a decent travel cover.

You can get a decent one for £19.99 - http://www.direct-golf.co.uk/golf_accessories/john...

or a super deluxe, wheeled, extra padded version for under £50 - http://www.direct-golf.co.uk/golf_accessories/john...

I have that £50 one and it's almost bomb proof!

Oh, and make sure you put a broom handle in your golf bag as well. Just make sure it's a few inches longer than your driver so that it sticks out a bit. Therefore, when the luggage guys launch your lovely kit across a room it does not snap your driver.

Good advice!
Especially regarding the pole to stop the drivers getting bent!

Sun Mountain Superlite 3.5 bags really are great, very durable and at the name would suggest exceptionally light. Ask your local pro if he gets any Ping irons in to keep the head protectors aside for you. They're a rather extravagant velvet lined sock that will prevent the heads from clunking together. As Moose1978 mentioned a pole is essential so that the first thing that hits the ground when the baggage handlers play who can throw the bags the furthest is the top of the pole.
