I think he encounters a hostile reception because he is a 
who dives at every opportunity.
Was watching a game last week and to the letter of the law, indeed it was a foul but he left his leg trailing to intentionally clip the defender's foot. Ronaldo goes down, penalty given. What you notice is that he hasn't even hit the ground from the 'challenge' and his head is already turned looking to appeal for a penalty from the ref.
Poor form imo.

I could be a lot more harsh based on the appearances footballers in the UK make on the front pages of papers (lets face it, they should really only be appearing on the back, they've normally been a nob or broken the law or both when they reach the front)
And you're probably right about 95% of them being fine, still I've got a big brush and a lot of tar.
