Is anyone else in utter awe of this man? I'v always had a love of sprinting since i used to watch the "lunchbox" doing his thing in the 90's.

I honestly believe he will be the first man to go sub 19 secs in the 200m, and he has already said he feels he can achieve a 9.5 for the 100m. (he has commented he has run 9.6 in training !!! yikes )

As far as i can tell he is a top bloke, and doing wonders for the sport no doubt.

Linford was in my mind the last "great" sprinter (biased!), but Bolt has surpassed him, and it could be 10-20 years before we see anything like this level of dominance again.

(as for that american muppet who said he is going to "go away and make sure he has the weapons to beat bolt" rolleyes , nob.....)

I assume the american muppet, is Tyson Gay?? He has beaten Bolt in a 100mtrs race recently, late last year IIRC. However, that aside, Bolt is something special, and maybe you are right we wont see his like ever again

For his athletic ability, yes definitely. Watching him in action he seems to float over the track rather than run along it, however for all his ridiculous posturing and gesturing before and after each race he just comes across as a bit of an arrogant tt.

I can't help think of how funny it would have been if the rest of the field had just yelled, in fine Lee Evans form 'waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanker' and shook the beans at him wen he false started in the 100m final.

He's far better than many of the sprinters of a few years ago - Bolt's relaxed attitude at the start seems to have stopped the strutting arrogance that the likes of Maurice Greene personified. Of course, if anyone in this world has due cause to be arrogant, it's Bolt. He could be so much worse in how he presents himself! hehe

He does seem to be on another level, shame he couldn't drive his M3 in a similar way.

He's already run a 9.5, he did a 9.58 in Berlin in 2009.

It is the world record, well according to Wikipedia.

He is utterly amazing. To the extent that I have concerns that his records will be out of sight for decades.

Having said that, there are womens' records that haven't been beaten for about 25 years. But they were drug powered which is rather different.

comment from roger black recently "the whole future of athletics rests on Bolt" basically saying that if bolt ever tests positive the sport goes back 20 years.... he has a lot resting on his shoulders... shame he hasnt had any real competition since the worlds in 2009... four peopel ran that 4x100m relay today, shame bolt has no humility really.

next years olympics will be special, Gay was on awesome form in the diamond legaue both last year and this year prior to his injury, asafa powell has still proved he can challenge on his day, then you have the likes of nesta carter and blake who both ran stunning legs this afternoon, and then Lemaitre is in with a shout. personally i think Gay can do it and i really want him too...

Is that the same Linford who subsequently failed drug tests?

Cant remember the whole detail but certainly watched it unfold at the time. Couldn't believe it to begin with and then teh rose tinted specs came off and the doubt and concern crept up and bit me on the ass!

ANyone who 'properly' cheats shows that he isn't nor ever was 'great' - IMHO.

Sorry.

But I agree about Bolt - Johnson did a great prog on him a while ago where he showed his mechanical flaws, his flaws in his sprinting style and technique followed by his rather relaxed (at times) attention to training and detail.

I think the conclusion of the whole study of Bolt was that he was a freak and it would be criminal if he didn't replicate his record breaking achievements for several years to come and put the bar so high that we may never see it cleared again! Johnson was genuinely in awe of the guy whilst also shaking his head at what he MIGHT achieve - note MIGHT; not will - unfortunately.

FOr a sprinter to be as tall as him is pretty unhead of. They're mostly stocky guys - look at MLF, or Harry AA - who is TOO muscley - a bit like Frank Bruno was - not loose enough. Bolt's physique is still in proprtion but by some unreal freakyness it all works, especially at high speed ona running track. See him run and it's like see a Federer backhand or a Woods drive etc - it looks unbeatable.

I don't mind all the pissing around at the start that he does - it's mostly tongue in cheek and acting the fool - not serious posturing ala Greene and Drummond etc ... there's always a smile on Bolt's face.

When he flse started it was purely BAD concentration. He knew he was unbeatable - he would have won easily - too easily in fact. I'#d love him to run the 100m/200m in London and then give up the shorter sprint and become like Johnson, a 400m man - a bit like Martyn Rooney should do - in fact Rooney HAS to - otherwise his career is going nowhere fast.

I'm sure that Bolt runs 400m in training - and has done a couple of specimen 400m goes without any info being released but he would be pretty quick.

He is as tall as Alberto Juanterena was that's for sure (if not taller) - and he did 400m/800m - I can see Bolt at the Dutch Olympics in Amsterdam in 2024 running the one lap/ two lap double hehe

Tyson Gay has run 9.6's, so is not talking nonesense(Christy ran a sub 9.9 once I think).
Bolt is a freak of nature though and will probably run a .4, so great to watch the best there has ever been, a joy to watch.

my only problem with bolt is that he knows sub 9.8 will probably win him pretty much any race so he rarely tries much harder than that. in this years world champs final he would have not needed much knowing that Gay and Powell were both out with injury and Carter, Collins and Blake were his main challengers for gold.

I just want to see him go flat out for 100m. Not run 90m or 95m then start taking the adulations with victory in the bag. i just want to see just how faas he can really go...

He will keep decreasing the world record by small increments. That way he makes more money, as promoters offer money each time the record is broken.

Just like Isinbayeva, who always manages to break the PV record (or did when she was still good) by 1cm - amazing that - and then qualified for a nice wad from her sponsor. thing is, she can choose by how much to break the record - Bolt can't really - I bet he'd love to shave 0.01 off every time!
