Hi,

Complete beginner here who has fished about 4 times from beach in devon. going with extended family to cornwall to roseland just up the estuary from st mawes next week. if i take my rod what can i try and catch there? is it sea water stuff like mackeral or is it fresh water?

any recommendations what might work - ie do i need floats or spinner thinghies etc etc?

would be nice to get something for the bbq!

thanks!

If it's and estuary then it's tidal that would mean that it's salt water, in an estuary you would expect to catch flounder, bass, small bream, eels, mullet, mackerel, garfish, & of course Crabs! to name but a few.

Light freshwater (carp) rods and reels are fine, light lines and weights for ledgering, but a few floats to meet the water conditions. My choice of hook sizes would be large freshwater hooks 8's down to 4's, if you intend to fish for flounders try to get some long shank hooks as they have a tendency to swallow the bait.

Spinning for bass would also be in order pop, into local tackle shop for info on hot spots etc.

You should be able to use all sorts of local baits, limpets from the rocks, cockles, mussels, lug worms, ragworms, mackerel, any manner of food, even bread for mullet!

Fish features like bridge piers, rocky outcrops etc just look for anything that you think that would give fish cover.

Tight lines. smile
