I've chucked something on, despite thinking that race is the most infuriating waste of money going!

I can just picture the meeting that started it... "I know, let's have a race where we'll bar half the population from entering because they're male. Then when we don't get enough people entering as a result of restricting the field so much, we can just waste a bloody fortune that could be far better spent on coming up with cancer treatments on TV adverts to tell everyone that we've not got enough runners as a result of our stupid, sexist entry policy, and please will some more women enter and raise sponsorship, because we're even more shagged now that we've spent all this money on these ads!"
