Not sure if this should be in the Sports or Holidays section!

Thinking of going to the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe this year and wondered if anyone else had been and had some tips?

What I’m really interested in are places to stay. Don’t really want to pay a fortune staying in Paris (rather spend the money on more interesting things!) so ideally would be looking to drive (opportunity to load up on wine and cheese) and stay somewhere further out in the countryside, that’s a bit more cheap and cheerful but has transport links to get to the course and back. Had a little look around the net but most of the sites just seem to be trying to push you towards corporate or “luxury” all inclusive weekends.

I went a few years ago with Horseracing Abroad. It was very good as they had their own stand but if you are going by yourself it's very cheap to get in as at all French racecourses. I believe that ladies wearing a hat can get in free to Longchamp on Arc day. Don't know about where to stay outside Paris though as I always stay in the city when I go racing there now.
