I've been looking at getting a decent quality bike for a few years not but don't want to spend a tonne, there are two that have caught my eye;

and

which is the better brand and better cycle? I kind of had my heart set on the Trek but the Diamondback seems like a really good deal.

Are you going to use it off road only ?
Get yourself down to an Evens store & see what sort of bike your money buys ,there are always cheap deals to be had on the net . If you get the cycling bug that a lot of us get you will regret buying a cheap bike
personally i would try & stretch to a little bit more , & these nobbly tyres are a nightmare on the roads if you want to get somewhere sharpish

It's going to be mostly for road use but I've also budgeted for new tyred, mud gaurds and a helmet and this is the Max I can stretch to for the bike. Reading online it still seems the trek is the better deal but if someone who knows more about bikes than me wanted to confirm or correct this I won't complain :-) thanks guys.
