I so want to go and see this film....when you think the Windies had those guys and the like of Khan, Dev, Hadlee and Botham were all earning a living too you realise how modern day batting averages need a massive haircut to be compared with guys playing against those guys. I wonder if Matt Hayden would have averaged 50 if he'd been playing in the 80's ?!?!?!
This is why I think it's all but impossible to compare eras, just accept the champions for what they without a doubt were in their times.
Remember it wasn't all that long ago that in England the bowlers runups were covered and the batting surface left to turn into a blancmange, he wasn't called deadly Derek for no reason. Try batting some time on a pitch that has been rained on for 24 hours and then gets a couple of hours of sun to dry the outfield and the ump calls play.
Obviously a bit of hometown bias but Bradman does stand absolutely huge on the landscape and the rest were champions of their time.

Indeed. Greatest sportsman the world has ever seen ? The fact his average is twice as good as anyone else that has ever played the game bar about maybe 20 people who average maybe 60% of what he did is without compare in any other sport. Gassing Station | Sports | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
