Did you apply for Olympics Tickets and get any?

We applied for something like 8-10 events and judging by the amount that was debited we think we have two of them- but goodness knows what.
It's odd that they take the money and then tell you what you've bought, rather than the other way round. The only reason I can think of is that they don't want punters deciding they don't want the tickets and refusing to pay.

Does the poll need an edit?
Didn't apply.
Applied & "won"
Applied & didn't get any.
That was deliberate. I'm only interested in the proportion of people who applied and then did or didn't get any tickets. The number of people who applied or didn't apply doesn't interest me. Didn't apply.

edited to add: I especially don't want to turn this into a thread for grumpy old men to tell us why they decided not to go, whether they that's because think it's too expensive, it doesn't interest them or whatever - I can't be arsed with such negativity I was just curious as allegedly, 6 in every 7 people have got something, but that's definitely not the case amongst my friends and I was interested in a wider picture to shed some more light on things.

Yup Applied for BMX, MTB and Kayak (three of each), really wanted either of the cycling ones, and the Kayak was to fill the day in-between the other two events.... sods law dictates I won the Kayak tickets only (only way the cash that was debited can fit 3x35 + 6postage).
Will still be going though, I think I'll just enjoy being there, regardless of the sport that I get to see.

It's interesting to see what people have gone for. I applied for several tennis and swimming events, plus the canoe slalom. The results bear out what I've seen, in that currently more people haven't got tickets than have. It's a 1 in 8 ratio amongst my friends now, and about 1 in 3 on here. The official figure is 7 to 1 the other way!
This seems like such a bonkers way of dong it.
There is an article on the Guardian that says anecdotal evidence suggested you had to "buy" £1,000 worth of tickets in order to have a 50:50 chance of receiving any.
Why didn't they just stick the tickets on eBay and let people bid for them?

That is silly, I couldn't afford to bid for the tickets to that extent. There is an article on the Guardian that says anecdotal evidence suggested you had to "buy" £1,000 worth of tickets in order to have a 50:50 chance of receiving any.

So only did for the ones I could afford, no wonder I didn't get any.
Ridiculous system.
