Good luck! Although you should really target 25 minutes or so then get a PB each week for a bit, otherwise you might just get slower indefinitely. smile
Don’t worry, I run a lot but have just never run a Parkrun or 5km race before!

Edinburgh parkrun cancelled again for the second week due to our lovely travelling community, who’ve set up camp on the promenade.

Chosen tomorrow to make my Parkrun debut. Hoping for around 19 minutes (or just under hopefully!).
Don't forget your barcode smile From my scanning experience most people just show the email with it in but there are phone apps (purple 5k app) and watch apps that store it.

my first run in a month after tearing my hamstring a month ago. Only jogged round, and strolled a couple of hundred metres towards the crest of a long hill, so a crap time, but happy to have got round and had another reasonable run this morning.

Hopefully I can have a good few months injury free.
Better today, ran all the way, time still poor but much quicker than last week. I'll continue to take it easy until I'm feeling fit again, and then will try and not push too hard.

Nice! That's a decent quick course and crowd!

I've managed third with 22 minutes before laugh

Well done Rosscow. Great time.
P5 for me out of 225. Fair bit slower than you in 20:24 mind! Within 90s of my son though (P1) which is closer than I usually am these days.

A year ago I never thought I'd get close to my parkrun pb again being 10 years older. Well today 11 years later I managed to match it. A faster course for sure but still very pleased. I think I can duck under 19 in next few months. Now 42 years old for reference, running average 30 miles/week.
To keep me grounded the winner today whizzed round in 15:45.

A very Saturday off Daddy Taxi duty meant I was able to do my first ParkRun in about three years… since then ive moved house and my new local one is A) significantly hillier than the one I used to do regularly and B) a lot less busy - about 70 there today which I found surprising as my previous ones was over 300 each week.

Very enjoyable… hope I don’t leave it another three years to go get another go!

Better than me, I ran a PB for East Grinstead - 23:07 - was 12 places (13th) and over 6 minutes behind my eldest son (1st)

Thanks, will focus on sub 19 and no injuries then decide If sub 18 is realistic later this year.

Assuming you are ticking the usual boxes (intervals, tempo, long run each week) upping your general volume will reap good rewards.

For reference I’m 50 and went from 18:40’s to 17:30’s by doubling weekly volume (40km to 80km week). If the body can handle it, you should definitely get quicker!

Great effort so far and good luck!

From lovely Fountains Abbey last weekend, I found myself at Fort William parkrun this weekend.

Quite a different course and experience, but still lovely in its own right. What's unusual is it's almost always made up of mostly tourists due to its proximity to Ben Nevis, so abilities can vary from weekend to weekend. Frustratingly, my time would have put me in 11th position the previous weekend, but this week was only good enough for 30th! Not that it has any significance in the scheme of things, but I was hoping to beat my previous best finish of 14th biglaugh

What's frightening is that you watch some of the BMC (or similar) races and the guys at the front are running easily sub-15 and you think the guys getting lapped are running slowly until you check their times and they're running 17/18 minutes.

Last Saturday I took a drive to one me and a couple of ex-workmates hadn't done and randomly bumped into three other ex-workmates of ours who also meet up for parkruns! It's great that people pick parkruns as a way of meeting up with old friends. I thought I got a PB of 24:03 but I'd forgotten I'd also got 24:03 a couple of weeks prior... I've got a 'real' 5k race booked in August so between now and then I'm going to be putting in some quicker training so hopefully that PB will get down a lot before the end of the year.

I prefer the quieter parkruns, I have a choice of about 5 within 20 minutes of me near Norwich and normally opt for a quieter, off-road run rather than one of the busy flat ones. I just find it a more pleasant experience (plus the queue for the coffee is shorter!).

20 minutes is a big achievement for the vast majority of parkrunners, even the ones who train to go quickly but one of our local 5k races had a field of 900, the top 300 were all under 20 minutes! https://totalracetiming.co.uk/raceresults/393
