It's about a year since I last went fishing..in fact, I manage to go only once or twice a year. I just don't get time.
The idea was seeded when I passed a small river on Monday and found out how to fish on it. Again, never got around to going there but felt the urge to get out and fish.
My local river, the Calder, has day tickets for £5. At about 1.00pm I decided to go. By 2.00pm I was on the river.
I was surprised to find the river quite high and in strong flow, but waders on, I ventured forth. Tied on an olive klinkhammer, added a drop of Dillywax and casted into the current. Splash in the water and fish on. First case....small grayling.
Was out 2 and half hours and caught two brown trout. Lost a few others. Great way to spend a few hours out and felt good for being outdoors on the water.
Nice one, brought a knowing smile to my face well done, as did Gone Fishing tonight - tight lines all The idea was seeded when I passed a small river on Monday and found out how to fish on it. Again, never got around to going there but felt the urge to get out and fish.

Using split shot is really not a science. When I leant to fish floats were not marked, that's a new thing, so you just instinctively know that a cork bodied float used more shot than a quill (but perhaps not if it was a very big quill)
I think anyone fishing a float will very quickly get a feel for how much shot it will take. More to the point is understanding where to put the shot according to how you want to present the bait.
Pic of the Tames at Shiplake today just for a bit of added colour![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
