A strong Kiwi side to start in Dunedin against the English.

We're taking it very seriously then. Which is good.

Should be a good game. TJ Perenara one of the best Scrum Halves I've ever seen play.

And no jeering for the Haka, which will be a change. rolleyes

See you all Saturday morning/evening for the banter.

ABs by 30+.

I’d like to think 30+ is hyperbole, but I see shades of the Tour From Hell about this. I certainly don’t see the ‘03 team comparison.
This England team feels callow, talented, but callow. Some horrible, nasty, gnarly, hard games down the end of the world will do them a whole lot of good in the long run.

I don't disagree.

Obviously us Kiwis always think we are invincible wherever we go or wherever we play, but the more realistic amongst us remember getting our backsides handed to us by the Irish not long ago. Plus the result of the 'pre season friendly' at Twickenham before the RWC.

However, I don't see anything standout about this England. It isn't the world beaters of 2003.

I wish 30+ was hyperbole as well, but I think we'll run away with it. I hope not, a close game would be great to watch.

Difficult venue for visiting teams to play in as well.

How does this England team compare to the RWC of 2019 (which humped NZ) or the one of 2023 (which lost to RSA by the same margin your lot did).

This England team may not be world beaters, then again neither are your lot (!) and it’s given you a far better game in recent matches than the 30+ pts you suggest.

However, I’ll cut you a huge amount of slack because of Teddy smile

I understand your blinkered view of England Rugby, but playing in NZ in the Forsyth Barr stadium is different.

It's all good quoting one off matches, ifs and buts. I would argue that in 2019 we were in between our best squad available. And we are a lot closer to being world beaters than England.

Points on the board are all that matter and all that go into the stats register. Last time England won in NZ was 2003. Coincidence? Don't think so. Best team in the world then. As they went on to prove. It's hard to argue against stats, we have only lost to England 8 times in 43 matches, winning 33 of them.

I hope I'm wrong, but I can't see anything other than a convincing win for us.

What I'm sure neither of us want is a very one sided thrashing.

I’m not blinkered, I’m very realistic. Which is why I didn’t even predict England to win.

I can only quote one off matches because those are some of the few recent times the teams have met. You’re quoting historical statistics, which don’t have much relevance, especially when NZ fielded teams that were effectively professionals when the rest of the world was turning up with doctors, solicitors and military personnel.

Have no doubt, it’s a huge task for any touring team and it all depends on which England team turns up, but this bunch seem to turn it on for big teams (RWC 2023 and Fra & Ire for the recent 6N) so I’m hopeful for a close match with good officiating. And no reds.

The worst of it is I’ve got to give Murdoch some of my money to watch it.

The flip side is, new coach, new team, first game. England have had a 6N and a warm up game in Japan and are, generally, improving with time.

I don’t think the margin will be massive either way.

No that much of a new team. Most of them were at RWC23.

At least we get 3 good games for Saturday's day pass. A leisurely breakfast of NZ/Eng and Aus/Wal games, out for some errands and then back at 4pm for SA/Ire.

World u20s group games are also being played today from 1pm and available free on Rugbypass, could be a good afternoon with them playing on my monitors next to seeing if Cav can do the double today in the TDF.... plus dipping into a bit of Wimbledon later...

I'm trying to 'work' goddammit!

Does that day pass on Sky also give you the British GP?

If so, not a bad day for maxing a one day pass.

Looks like Nowtv sports pass will give you all SkySports channels but not the bonus streams (presumably that's the alt views for the GP races etc) for £14.99.

The flexible monthly pass looks decent for £34 to cover the next 2 weeks of rugby and and 3 F1 races in July, plus t20 cricket etc.

Yeah I’ve gone for the 1 month at £35 to cover both matches. Used to be £8 for a day pass, now it’s £16. Ho hum.

That's not terrible in the grand scheme of things.

Luckily I've already got Sky Sports on my Sky package.

Except I'm probably paying 100+ a month or so for Prime, Netflix, Spotify, Tidal, Beatport, etc I really don't need to be paying more for streaming stuff!

What really gets my goat is that the bulk of the NowTV revenue will go towards footballer’s wages, not the sport I actually paid to watch.

Same with the Premiership rights next season. TNT have increased costs to pay for more football, while they’ve reduced the revenue share to the Unions.

You both make very valid points.

Probably best we don't dwell on that for our own sanity.

Is Air Steward even on the Tour? I don’t see him in the match squad at all.

He's on tour but, I suspect, deemed too slow for 15 - does 12 beckon?
