Just bought a little plinking 5-shooter.

It’s a used revolver custom engraved by a friend of the original owner - a local guy - so is probably one of a kind…or one of only a few…which I think is pretty cool.

Needs a clean…but I think I’ll have to shoot it first!

I'd be a bit miffed if I'd forked out the best part of £11k for a DT11 thinking I'd had the flagship and quite possibly one of the best competition guns that money can buy for beretta to then release a new and even more advanced gun.

Even more so now that beretta themselves have reduced the amount of over-boring (a big selling point of the steelium pro barrels exclusive to the DT11) claiming that an 18.4 bore diameter will produce better patterns than the 18.7 bore diameter found on the DT11, 694 and SP sporting guns.

Having said that, I've recently changed to a 694 so an SL2 at over 6x the cost of the 694 must be some gun.
I moved to a 694 about 12 months ago. It works very well for me and has improved my scores on clays. I like the gun so much, I shot most of the game season with it too.

However, that SL2 looks amazing.

This house has been for sale for ages:

On the matterport, go into the room to the right of the kitchen, next to the world map.

Must have been serious about it. I mean, how many do you need?

Shot the “Hodnet Challenge” on Friday, 120 bird competition and incredibly challenging. Both George Digweed and Mark Winser to name but a few were in attendance which was a little surreal.

Some rather hard targets on, which was a nice challenge, a going away edge on battue which I’d never seen before was a highlight, and a far away rabbit under your feet which I never get to shoot much of. There was also a mix of super sporting stands thrown in which were good fun and a change of pace. Overall just a really good shoot.

Have to say, West Midlands is a lovely ground, I know you guys were running a PH monthly shoot, you should try and get to it, if you haven’t already.

Smithy from here shot this as well, and it does indeed look
Like a ground we should add …..
4 of the Ph gang shot the the Jack Pyke this week, and I think we can hold our heads up , given our group ability.

We are shooting Grimsthorpw
Next Saturday as part of our monthly program if anyone wants to join us.

How’d you get on Smithy? I shot a 75, 10 short of my target of 85 but I’m still pretty happy with that. When it chucked it down halfway round I tore my thumbnail off on my wet safety catch, I just wanted to get off the stand as soon as possible then..

ETA: one of the guys I shoot with frequently who is a very good shot, and had for years said it was the most difficult set of targets he’d seen at a shoot!

I was lucky to be in the squad with the Hull rep who was very kind to give me free shells to try biggrin

How was the Jack Pyke?

Jack Pyke was great, well organised , very few no birds, and a good range of targets.

The PH crew shot, iirc between 74 and 64 between us….

So it looks like we’re all around the same level, but all
Plan to improve….

Glad to hear it, I just wish I’d started shooting these competitions earlier, rather than just socially, no time like the present I guess.

Glad you enjoyed it mate, I finished on a 71, so roughly 60% which is slightly below my average there, but as you say it was probably a tougher overall course given the nature of the event. They do a Tuesday evening 50 birder during the summer and 4 x CPSA registered shoots per year, one each season effectively, the next being July, which are always popular.

But as you say, fantastic ground and some great targets. It's my closest ground now so try to get up there as much as possible, they did tonnes of work for this comp, I've never seen so much of the actual ground, the topography makes for some superb stands like the rabbit way down below your feet that you mentioned.. That stand shooting over the Motocross track was brutal wasn't it?! Massive sim pair of battue crossers laugh

I shot on Friday in a random squad with 4 others, all great chaps, 2 had come over from Northern Ireland for the comp so it shows the kinda reputation the ground has.

Didn't shoot as well at the Jack Pyke, by comparison.. Hodnet felt like a tough course that I was able to come away with a decent score once buckled down, whereas Jack Pyke felt like I couldn't get into a rhythm a lot of the time and hence dropped too many off the score card..

Nevertheless a cracking long weekend of shooting with good company!

Well shot mate, that’s a respectable score on that layout.

I was pretty happy to come away with a 4 from that stand, I saw those targets and thought I might as well throw my cartridges in the bin hehe

I’m going to book on the July registered, are you already booked on?

I think I hit the incomers and had a very lucky second shot on one of the single battues laugh

And yes I'm booked on the 9:27 squad for the July one - happy to shoot with you if there's space on the squad / that's not too early (I tend to book early if possible as it's usually quieter and I can get there in 20 mins) thumbup

That is far too early for me I’m afraid - plus it’s about 1 hr 20 away from me. I’m happy to join one Tuesday evening though, alternatively I’m shooting Catton Hall 100 Reg on Sunday if you wanted to join me and a friend - drop me a PM smile

The SL2 is a very different gun to a Dt11 in fairness. If you think of 694 as Boxster/Cayman, Dt11 as 911 and SL2 as GT3/GT2 you would be right ballpark, the 694 is a fantastic gun, it's also a great buy for the money. The DT11 is arguably no more fun except in a few very capable pairs of hands, but does have a few nice features and a degree of finishing in the custom shop in Due, and the SL2 is for people wanting an SO level gun, all hand built to the highest standard, any performance increase is likely to be minimal in most hands but will make you feel special to use it. And the prices match accordingly.

Thats very well put, good job.

Id not shoot any better with an SL than I do with my 694, but I think I'd look at more......

Of course you wouldn't, almost no one would. And frankly a truly great shot would outshoot an average shooter regardless of hardware.

I ended up with a Dt11 when I was aiming for a 692. Don't regret the decision one bit, but I also would have been just as happy with the 692.

I do still want to add a 682 gold e sporter to my cabinet, it's about appreciating guns for what they are rather than mistakenly believing they will transform your scores.

So whilst I love my shotguns, I also have a thing for air rifles. I only had one, a BDA R10, with a beautiful walnut stock. I have just added this, which is a far less pretty thing.

Folding/telescopic stock and carbine barrel means it is very small, even with moderator fitted. And highly adjustable - dials and hammer spring adjustment allow power changes to be made. And you can swap the entire caliber of the thing with a kit, fit longer barrels, different stock and grip etc. Will go to a Magpul CTR stock in olive green, and matching pistol grip. My brother in law has this on his 5.56 AR setup in the US, and I have shot it with him and liked that setup. Shall buy them over there in the summer as here they are largely unavailable and also expensive for such a mass produced item.

It is about to get a load of laser/red dot optics stuff. It's a remarkably complicated and well made little thing. Very adjustable and has nice features like stop valve on the air cylinder so you can take it off when empty and swap a new, full one in without tools.

FX Airguns Dreamline Tactical Compact. Just trips off the tongue, right?

ETA, apart from stocks and grips, what other AR type stuff is a lot cheaper in the US? I imagine optics etc are vaguely similar in price.

Need a bit of advice please.
TL;DR - Need a backup gun for a Beretta 694

I have 4 guns ( cannot fit anymore in the cabinet), each is used for different types of shooting. However, as mentioned since getting my 694 last year, its pretty much all I use.

Beretta 694 Clays and Game
Franchi semi for pigeons
Beretta 486 Parallelo for Sunday best
20b Silver Pigeon for my kids to occasionally use.

I am going to get rid of the semi as I dont really use it, or like shooting with it. I need a 2nd 12b O/U for sometimes taking guests shooting, or as a backup for if something goes wrong with mine. My thinking is it maybe should be something that shoots / feels similar to the 694?

Previously I have had a few versions of Silver Pigeon and that's probably the way I will go.
My local shop has some nice 2nd hand options. Beretta options are 692, 687 SP 3, SV 10 (never heard of these before), or 690.
There is also a lovely Grade 5 Miroku MK38, which I have always liked the look of. Anyone shoot an MK38? Is it similar feel to a Beretta? FYI, I do not like the chunky feel of Browning guns.

(I realise quite a few of these guns are Sport guns, but I am not really that concerned as it will be used for a mix of sport / game).

Agreed. Mine is my guest/spare over and under gun for the same reason, after I bought the Rizzini last year. Silver Pig is reliable, easy to shoot, and easy to fix (not that nine has ever needed it in 20 years).
