Well parkrun will still be there if you fancy it again. I’m the opposite, in that I don’t run too often other than parkrun (between 0 and 2 runs in the week and rarely more than 5k at a time).

Having never run as far as 5k in my life until my first parkrun aged 47, I completed my 250th on Saturday. It’s been transformative for me - I guess I just enjoy the “club” feel and the regularity of it.

Parkrun has helped me, in it gives me one run a week in which i can really dig deep and push myself. I usually get a PB which is very motivating.

The rest of the week is then free for more relaxing runs without any pressure to run fast.

I've never spoken to anyone, swoop in and out, and only do the barcode thing as was told it does more harm than good to skip it, but I love it

Welcome to the 250 club!

Parkrun for me is one of my 5 runs a week. Usually the shortest and also usually the one where I push the pace the most.

If I "race" it tends to be much longer distances where pace is not the important factor but keeping moving.

Still getting my two interval sessions in each week although not done a Parkrun in 3 weeks or so due to other commitments.
This week it’s been ..
Sun… 40 mile cycle
Mon .. rest
Tue .. 5 x 1k @ ave 4:07 , 90 sec recs, total distance 10k with w/u c/d
Wed.. 50 mile cycle ( few hard efforts)
Thur .. rest ( felt gubbed )
Fri .. 10 x 0.5k @ ave 3:57 , 60 sec recs , 8k total
Not sure whether to do PR tomorrow as I have a 50m club ride on Sunday and my legs are pretty sore after this morning. Could maybe just go and take it easy.

Who got soggy running today then! I have a rack full of HiVis drying out in the kitchen and my shoes are in the airing cupboard!

Numbers down to a more manageable 375 today instead of the now normal 600. Numbers drop more noticeable down the road at Hove Prom, last few weeks 783, 730, 769 - today 298 - wimps smile

Almost didn't go today for the drizzle, but it was almost nice to have a little sprinkle.

We (Alvaston) were spared the rain during parkrun today (it started raining when we were in the cafe!) which I was grateful for as it was my first time being run director.

We had a few less this week too - the forecast wasn't great, maybe that put some off.

Started raining just as I was walking back to the car and poured down all the way home. 25 mins was just quick enough today smile

I woke up to heavy rain this morning, by the time we were ready to set off it had stopped and there were patches of blue sky.

I was doing a long run with parkrun in the middle (19k total), so out for quite a while. Turned out to be quite sunny for most of the run.

About an hour after getting home it started raining quite heavily again! It worked out well today...

100th for me today. I walked. The weather was mixed. Jumper came off after the photo as I warmed up a bit. Think I'll do some volunteering over the summer.

Morden (SW London) started this week and was kept secret to prevent silly numbers turning up.

I keep an eye on the inaugural parkrun FB page (to know where new events are, not because I'll go to one!!) and people are going mental about how it infringes their human rights to not be told of an inaugural and how HQ are not being inclusive - would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

I imagine week 2 will have silly numbers now the cat's out of the bag.

Sorry, only just getting into Parkrun, so not aware of the norms - what's so important about an inaugural run?

A lot of people have got in to chasing challenges, things like going to one each event number, doing an alphabet, etc. HQ stopped publicising the inaugurals because they were getting a lot parkrun tourists turning up, and with a new event and team it's not nice to get swamped on your first event.

Some of the obsessive tourists seem to have a limited grasp on reality. I've seen people moaning that closed events, eg those on military bases, shouldn't be allowed because they're not inclusive. So because some random tourist who can go to several thousand events across the globe can't go to a specific event, people who based there shouldn't be able to go to any events. tts.

I have nothing against a bit of tourism, and have been to something like 110 different events myself, but some of them will go to a different country for just a few hours solely to do a parkun!

Wow I had no idea park run tourism was a thing. Just reading facebook, people talking about day trips to europe and flying home same day.

i guess it's not inherently less dumb than other kind of touring, when you break it down. But it kind of highlights the nuts more clearly

Chasing inaugural is a specific thing too. There used to be people dedicated to doing them. There is still a want for people to do new events to maintain whole regions/areas/counties completed.

Some events have been overrun and not been able to continue as parking etc has been a problem and land owners have withdrawn permission so HQ requested (ages ago now) that people refrain from attending inaugural events to allow teams time to get established.

Thanks for the clarity. As said I've only just started doing them properly this year so just learning the ropes. I've joined a few Parkrun Tourist pages on Facebook and there are clearly some people who take it very seriously. I do like the idea of the challenges, but it's very unlikely it'll ever become all consuming for me. At the moment my Parkrun tourism revolves around trying to find the least muddy courses close to home.

I did Fountains Abbey (near Ripon) at the weekend. Been meaning to do for years but never got round to it, even though it's only 40 minutes away from me.

Stunning course, 56th different event but goes right to the top of my list of favourites. Highly recommend if you're in the area.

Two tips if you're considering it:

> Don't leave home with minutes to spare - 15 minute walk from the car park to the start (they even advise this on the page, my error!)

> Make sure you have a barcode on your person, I left my keyring in the car and didn't have a pdf downloaded on my phone. Zero data signal on the course so had to walk right back up the hill to the visitor centre and then back down again to get scanned...

It's now Monday morning and my glutes are still screaming from walking up that hill twice. That said, the course itself is pretty flat and although busy, you could run a quick time if you start in the right place. I did a steady one as I wanted to get a few photos on the way round.

Don't make the mistake of thinking those groups represent the average parkrunner some of them are nutters. I'm in NL and we get people taking an overnight bus from the UK to get to The Hague at about 7am, parkrun, and then get an afternoon bus back. That's not normal biggrin
The guy who started the World Tourists group even flew to Malaysia for about half a day!

I like a bit of tourism but like to go somewhere for a long weekend or even better a week.

I came 100'th on my 400th run this week, nice symmetry ruined by it being my 103rd volunteer at my home event, I should have thought about that one sooner biggrin
