I think I'm saying that there is a difference between someone submitting bad scores to increase their hcap vs someone submitting a good score in order to reduce their hcap.
If you are towards scratch it definitely makes a difference because it gets you into comps you otherwise wouldn’t
Agreed. It's always interesting in Scratch matches when you ask their handicap at the end, it's never what you think it is..
Interesting - I hadn't considered there might be that problem at the lower handicap end of the world - not a problem I've had yet smile - I'd assumed it was purely a vanity handicap thing and a lower handicap could only be a disadvantage rather than an advantage. You learn something new every day !

You get to play some very nice courses for little money. Yorkshire Amateur is at Ganton this year, £70 entry fee which gets you 2 rounds minimum. Standard rate is something daft like £180/round.
Problem is, these events and higher up are getting over-subscribed as there's loads of people entering off +2 etc that have just been popping in general play cards and couldn't break 80 In a comp.

The bigger EGU events now will review entries based on how and where cards have been entered. If you've only got 20 general play cards on your record you're pretty screwed. It's even worse in Junior ranks apparently...

I put a card in roughly every other week on average when I play a medal. Everyone very kindly says I should be a single handicap, and I’d love that. Unfortunately the scores tell a different story… hehe

WHS has been a rather disappointing system for this but I thought it was being cut down now?

I've seen it all;

-10 Hole cards to get the HCP lower
-NS Scores to not mark a bad score due to "injury"
-General Play cards being put in the system hours after they've teed off (You must declare before play), this is on the IG app service not myeg so god knows what's happened on that

I wouldn't be surprised if a large percentage of the field in some of these comps have falsified.

Sadly had to cancel playing Aphrodite Hills this week for a couple of reasons - the forecast of 29 degrees has changed to the same 36 it's been all week, and the hire car company the wife found have dropped off a car I'm not entirely sure would make the 100 miles across the island. It's a Mazda 2 with 232k miles on the clock, and some of the noises coming from the flywheel are...concerning.

Good news is we're in Paphos in early September, so I've moved my reservation to then when I'll have my clubs with me as well. Plan is a couple of rounds there and one at Secret Valley.

232k miles rofl

Just heard the resort I live on is now giving 30% discount for residents. 18 with a buggy less than €60. Obviously coincides with 30*+ temps.

Impressed that Shiels had the stones to attempt Open qualifying seems that -3 was the mark so it wasn’t all that easy (Caldy.. no me neither)

Saw a video with Iona Stephen playing Troon with the local pro and he says he hasn't seen the rough as thick as it is for 12 years.

Doubt we'll see scoring like 2016.

Yes really didn’t look very inspiring. Might be where they filmed a bit of the Flitcroft film.

Agreed!

Here's the clip- https://youtu.be/pcugI2ALxzo?t=1496

Looking forward to seeing the postage stamp again. Here's a cracking video I've probably posted before with Monty and Harrington going through their ultimate Open holes, 8th at Troon included of course-

I went to the American golf driving range at Trafford park last night, bit of a drive there and back (3 hours) it was my first time at a US style double decker range, the mats were much better than my local range softer on the fat shots if that makes sense.

We were on the upper deck which I found to be quite cool, once I'd got over the fact that I wasn't going to throw myself off the bay, loads of tempting stuff in the shop as well and I was really enjoying using a scotty cameron newport 2 putter on the practice green but came away with a set of alignment sticks instead. frown

You're going to have to elaborate on that travel time because that seems ridiculous just to go to AG

That is a long way to hit some balls, for a game of golf not so much.

Also if you like the Newport 2, have a look at the secondhand market as they haven't changed much over the years. Just avoid the ones with inserts, as they aren't so good.

I like her. She’s good to watch and listen to. Hailed from Crail if I am not mistaken

I'm happy with my Ping Anser redwood but I did like the Scotty but that's because it was shiny and new, I'm going to spend that £440 plus a bit more on series of lessons which start on the 27th instead plus a fitting for my clubs.

Good.
Thickness of rough really is unlikely to be a deciding factor - watched Finau a bit in person last time it was at Troon, miles off target off the tee, consistently hitting the spectator walkway areas no problem.

They'll be bad spots to avoid (down the right of 11 near the railway line) but it's not a tight course.
