Emma looked like the player with the higher ranking on the day smile

If the form continues, I look forward to seeing many matches between her and Coco Gauff smile

I don't blame her for withdrawing from what's largely a ceremonial mixed doubles match with Andy.
Has to put everything into her singles tournament, and I'm sure Andy would be the first to acknowledge that.

Slightly more pressure on Emma in this match - as she's favourite and expected to win it!
Sun is strong though in Set 1.

Sun gets 2 aces on her serve in one game to serve out the set. She's looking good!

Great mental fortitude from Emma in what's a tough match so far...
Hoping Sun tries to push too much and make some errors!

Has Emma got a niggle in her back? She seems to have been flexing it a bit for a while...

As Emma's grass season concludes, I think her mental fortitude and commitment remain. Physically, she's still not quite there.
Coco Gauff would heve certainly taken her out in straight sets today...
Emma will be back because of her love of tennis..

She has been drawn against former Aus Open winner Sofia Kenin in the first round of the US next week.
That's a tough 1st round match and Emma will need to be on top form from the get-go..
