Back from my 6.45am tee off, early golf isn't for me, low sun and dew covered fairways for the first few holes was a bit of issue, couldn't buy a tee shot all round apart from the short par threes, from 100yds in I played really well but off the tee I was putting myself in all sorts of trouble it got into head and just got worse.
I got a bit grumpy with myself on the tees but thankfully could walk off the greens knowing I'd made the best of what I was giving myself from them which was generally a side ways chip out of the trees!
Another round completed this morning - 07:24 in rainy conditions at the start but turned out rather nice with almost zero wind by the end.
But why is it that as soon as one part of your game gets good, another part decides to drop off ?
Tee game was decent apart from 2 that couldn’t be found. ( the rough is now so juicy, you can be half a yard off the fairway and struggle to find it. I’m blaming the summer bad bounce for both of those.
Approach and short game good. Hit some absolutely wonderful shots out there today which continues to convince me that my best score is just around the corner.
Putting though. I think I’d have been better off with my eyes closed. Despite holing all my practice green attempts, I went on and three putted the first 3 greens missing almost identical 3-4 footers……39 putts and 90 gross

2nd round of the Scratch comp and +6 for a net 73 (+1)
A tale of what could've been. I was -2 gross through 2 (-3 net) but then had a couple of poor holes. Back 9 was decent but finished bogey, bogey for a disappointing finish.
Good enough over the weekend for 4th place in the Scratch comp. Game was decent today, 3 birdies in total but a bit of sloppy short game and I lost my putting touch for a few holes.
Played with a couple of nice blokes, one of them is a Spanish guy off 5 who hit the ball beautifully, proper pro level striking at times. Serious compression and flight.
The comp was won with -2 gross over the 2 days, decent..

Playing after four and a half hours sleep the night before, then a moring and afternnon on your feet isn't always a good idea. Entering the comp certainly isn't.
Started well on 1 and 2. Good drive. Wedge to 20ft, tap in par.
Then it went down hill. Rapidly!
Long story short. Despite driving it quite well, and having tap in pars on the 4 hardest holes. I shot 87. Which is 3 shots worse than my last 3 round combined![rotate](/inc/images/rotate.gif)
Stupid game.
I've got a round with the boy tomorrow evening then a greensomes quarterfinal knockout on Friday. Hopefully I'll be less 'tired' then![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)

I watched Pete’s last night.
He’s brutally honest about how it affected him… tough watch.
I watched it as well, felt really sorry for him. I looked up the scores at Hesketh that day and it was playing incredibly hard. The best score was only a -2, whereas some of the other quali courses were -6. Pete finished +12, tied with six other golfers in 102nd place. It was absolute carnage out there. At the tail of the field, there were four golfers tied on +17.He’s brutally honest about how it affected him… tough watch.

Still pretty good going that is chap, think I'd struggle to get both rounds in the 70s, so well played. A tale of what could've been. I was -2 gross through 2 (-3 net) but then had a couple of poor holes. Back 9 was decent but finished bogey, bogey for a disappointing finish.

Logged into BRS this morning to check out results of the medal at the weekend, thinking I was in with half a chance with a 71 as the last one was won with a 75 and the course hasn't got any easier since then. Good news was I've had a small handicap cut to 9.3, bad news is my 71 has been knocked down to a 72 for reasons I cannot fathom (BRS gave me 10 shots for the medal but that seems to have gone down to 9 in thr final reckoning) which left me 7th.
Always happy with a Top 10 but still a little disappointed , still proud of the round itself tho.
Only golf this week is a fitting for a T200 on Thursday, then the clubs go away for 10 days whilst we go to Protoras. Always happy for a holiday, just a little annoyed Club Championship has been rearranged for when I'm away.
To cheer myself up I've entered the Wem Bowl again instead - 36 hole scratch competition at Hawkstone, playing both courses in one day. Doubt I'll be in the prizes off 9 but always a great experience and a fairly decent value way (£60 for the day including lunch) to play one of the best courses in Shropshire - and the Windmill

Both used them to really good effect, around 230/240y and normally dead centre.
I'm just not long enough for a longer iron, but in the right hands I can see the appeal. You always know a decent player when they take out a 2 iron on our first hole (550 par 5)...

Shot a 97 (nett 76) in our July medal which was good enough for 11th/30. Three triples and some absolutely dreadful drives, but some monsters as well. Inconsistencies off the tee are killing me at the moment. I don't think I hit any hooks this time but I had 3 or four total blocks right. PITA.
Winning score was a nett 67 and the best gross was an 80. I was surprised no one shot in the 80s. It gives me a lot of hope because I know that when my game clicks I can be shooting scores that challenge that.
Club champs this weekend. Never played in them before. Need to just find a little something in my swing. My biggest issue is that I don't always feel confident stood over the ball that I'm not going to miss right, so I end up gripping the club more strongly, shift my stance etc and end up missing left. I think tbh I'd be better off missing right as at least then I'd typically be short as opposed to the left miss that, on this firm ground, just keeps running.

Bullard is own best fan though.
He's a great golfer, but yeah, massive ego unwatchable for me nowadays.Had a weekend away with the lads, Wyboston Lakes up near St Neots. For £95 (room for the night, 2 rounds, dinner, prizes and breakfast) I was expecting a goat track but it wasn't actually that bad. Yes the greens were slow, the fairways cut long and some holes a little short but it wasn't that bad!
Despite a good few mistakes on each round I managed a 75 and a 76, or 38 and 36 points, enough for 2nd on the first day and 4th on day 2 (after a cut). Will take that.

I have the same issue in terms of confidence and I think that's a killer (regardless of our swing faults), I was awful from the tee yesterday and I find I lose commitment to the shot after a few holes, my miss is a high block to the right that slowly morphs into a weak slice with the odd low running hook as the rails come off. Once I get within 100yds I'm fine but yesterday it was taking me 2-3 shots to get there if only I could stand on the tee with the same confidence as I do with a 100yd pitch in front of me.

Just back from 18 at Azata, Estepona. It’s a pretty ordinary course compared to many round here (greens are very good, but the course design is poor and with no fairway watering, it’s rock hard)… but it is cheap (only €40 as a members guest).
Teed off at 8, and half way down the 1st had horizontal rain… it was, relative to what you’d expect here at this time of year, freezing cold… shorts and t shirts, no jumper, waterproofs or brollies, so we sheltered in the buggy for 15 mins while it passed. It remained super windy, but at least we didn’t have any more rain.
Didn’t hit a decent shot until the 5th tee, then parred 6 & 7, bogied 8 and parred 9. Had a 7 on 15, but otherwise pars and bogeys on the back.
Oh, and forgot my shoes so had to play in a pair of Adidas sambas… not ideal![laugh](/inc/images/laugh.gif)

Course I found average, but had some nice views.
We played in a LIV style event at a local course at the weekend.
Format was best 3 scores to count, stableford, we had one pro golfer and two scratch players along with myself, so only got 6 shots from me. We scored 118 points which we thought was decent, but some of the scores that came in... We needed at least another 15/20 points to make the prizes.
Good event though and something different with the music, MC and BBQ whilst playing.
