Is anyone here a cricket coach? I need to get out the house more and socialise with people. I have thought about playing cricket again and joining a club but have a nagging injury that I can't fix. I still might do that once I am better.
I was wondering about becoming a coach. Seems like the ECB Core Coach is about 300 quid. I know you need first aid, safeguarding and DBS on top but imagine they won't be huge costs and am happy to self fund.
Where would I look to actually coach people. Would local clubs want or need coaches for junior teams or schools? I would do this as a volunteer.
Just think it would be a good way to meet some people who share an interest and give something back
I am - have done ECB Foundation and Core courses, safeguarding gets added as part of the courses. DBS is simple. First aid actually isn't mandatory I done think at present but I have done. My club funded all of the above.I was wondering about becoming a coach. Seems like the ECB Core Coach is about 300 quid. Whereabouts are you? I'm in Herts and so know a number of clubs around here, it's a slightly different set up in most of clubs.
We are lucky, we have filled up our junior section (250 kids!) and actually have a waiting list for the younger ones. We have age group cricket all the way through and a really good girls and ladies section too. It's a very rewarding way to spend your time although challenging at times too.
Happy to answer any questions about the courses or coaching

Happy to see Anderson in the Playing XI at Old Trafford. May be this will be his last test match. I hope to see him get past the 700 test wickets before he retires.
Is he playing for Lancs this week then? i could have sworn i saw him bowling innocuously at the oval today!Hes finished and its one of the many decisions (to keep picking him to indulge him on past rep) that has meant we lost the ashes. Yes hes been great in the past, but we don't win matches based on past performance.
Hes been nothing special for Lancs all season, hald fit too, and was on thw wane last year. Add in Robinsons pointless selection as hes a slob who will not get fit, and we are going in light ion the early games. Sam Cook, Joverton, even Porter, amongst others should have played instead of those 2.

Agree he has been off the boil this season and continuing to pick him is possibly a mistake but he hasn't been on a slide, it's only the last 3 tests holes played (this one is only 1 day in)

Lies damned lies and statistics...to me as a expert watcher he looked on the wane.Agree he has been off the boil this season and continuing to pick him is possibly a mistake but he hasn't been on a slide, it's only the last 3 tests holes played (this one is only 1 day in)
He's injured this season. Crazy he's been picked injured. Regardless of being on the wane.

Yep I think there is a fair bit of disingenuous behaviour from the ECB on the state of some of our players. Jimmy was No1. Played some county matches, injures his groin. Then nope he's fine selected for every Test squad, but doesn't seem to fire. Clearly in this Test he has an ankle niggle on top. He's injured this season. Crazy he's been picked injured. Stokes and that knee. Oh he's had an injection, he went to the IPL, kept a seat warm, yeah he's raring to go. Bowls a handful of overs, nope knee is still clearly fked.
Pope out, Ali buggered, Wood can only bowl 5 overs at time lest he falls apart, Bairstow is more metal than Iron Man. Robinsons back. Leaches back.
There are only about 4 or 5 players fully fit.

A quarter fit stokes get in the side though, still better than the rest. Mooen is mooen, talented but wasteful but face fits. I can just about understand his SOS as blooding next in line (surely matt critchley if a spinning allrounder) in an ashes, unless they went with Dawson (which I think they should) is a career death knell...kerrigan, Borthwick, crane etc.Stokes and that knee. Robinson is just lazy and unfit 90% of the time regardlessnofnactual injury, he should be binned off as plenty of others who can do what he's does.

Sorry never responded. Im in MK. I went to a Bucks Cricket "Get into coaching" session the other night to find out about it. Sounds really interesting and I have signed up to the foundation course. Also messaged a couple of clubs locally about coaching opportunities and also finding out about playing again.Whereabouts are you? The was another chap on the course who suggested his club and they do look good, lovely pitch and a decent youth section

A good reason to watch it on Sky then.Scabutz said:

I always enjoy Nasser's comments and tips on fielding, and how not to run out your partner! Although I believe that he himself was once involved in a run-out.
I miss Bumble, though.
Nasser is ok in small doses, buy he goes on and on and on.I miss Bumble, though.
Bumble is definitely missed

Exactly why was Bumble removed from the Sky team? Bumble is definitely missed
Don't you just love village cricket.
Our 2nd XI currently sit 2nd in league, 21 points behind 1st but with a game in hand (maximum for a win is 20)
Struggling a bit on Saturday at 83-8. Then a league record 9th wicket stand of 168, with our number 10 scoring 126 off 77 balls meant we ended up on 262
What a mental game!
Tough one to call this week as 1st play 3rd. 1st win and we could be up, 3rd win and we have a shot at the title (presuming that we do the business).
