Honestly thought we'd blown it today, several times. Shows what I know....
Fantastic catch to win it though. I can't believe putting Kohler-Cadmore there was an accident given that he is a wicketkeeper as well.
At last, 18 years of hurt and four losing finals can be banished with this, chuffed for Lewis Gregory who is an unbelivably nice bloke and a very under rated captain and cricketer.
Woo, and indeed hoo!

Quality game and catch of the season to close it out for the CiderBoyz.
Well deserved.
Hardly. Essex chucked it away as they simply slog even when they need a run a ball like here. Lost 2 group games doing the same. Brainless cricket, flukey catches and a catch that was clean not given.Well deserved.
Essex not much cop but found a way and should have won this...110 of 17 overs with 10 wickets and lost! Walter, snater, das, Lawrence all stupid shots

18 years of hurt...I don't think anyway actually cares about the hit and giggle to have 18 years of hurt! It's a lottery game. Cc is the true test.Fantastic catch to win it though. I can't believe putting Kohler-Cadmore there was an accident given that he is a wicketkeeper as well.

Anyway enjoy!
As a brought up in Essex but Somerset fan, that is a fantastic achievement. But exhausting to watch.
Surrey game in the pub and then the final at home snatched between hosting a poorly timed bbq for non-cricket friends. To take 20 wickets in 39 overs is an amazing achievement and I would say, although biased, that Somerset have been the outstanding team throughout this campaign having watched the way they’ve batted, bowled and, which has really set them apart, fielded. England take note, it is the fielding that make the difference in a close fought match.
La la la Somerset, la la la etc. Well deserved by all the squad and all at Somerset CCC.

Wasn't going to reply to the two fun sponge messages above yours but I will.
1. Critchley's catch wasn't clean, his fingers weren't right around the ball so a fair part of it was touching the ground = not out. If he had "cupped" the ball completely, then yes, finger goes up but he didn't.
2. Flukey catches? Not sure what ones they were then. Surely you don't mean the Kohler-Cadmore catch to win it? The guy is a wicket keeper and was placed there for the slice/edge from the batsman. It wasn't by accident he was there. Unless I'm missing another catch that was flukey?
3. Brainless cricket. Sometimes you just have to credit the winners with the ability to close out games. To defend 142 and then 145 against sides with the likes of Roy, Lawrence, Sams, the Currans and Evans is quality cricket backed up by astute, clever captaincy from Gregory.
And as for not being fully deserved? They won 15 games out of 17, a record, not sure why they don't deserve it. That's never been done before, almost complete dominance from a very impressive all round squad. And for a team that for years has been told it only wins matches because of the Taunton pitch being a batsman's paradise, this year they took 151 wickets in their 17 games, that's an incredible stat.

I’m a Surrey fan so was disappointed by our brain dead batting but all credit to Somerset defending a below par score with clever bowling and some great catches. Imgo they deserved the title even if the DL method does set some seemingly easy run chases at times. Wasn't going to reply to the two fun sponge messages above yours but I will.

As an Essex fan, well done to Somerset they were the best team on the day. Essex did well to make the finals day given how inconsistent their form in the Southern group was. Somerset are the best team at defending low scores. In the final some of the Essex batting was very poor aside from Rossington, Walter and especially Daniel Sams. Aside from the final result is was a decent day's cricket.

Anyway good luck in thr champo!
Has anyone watched the Botham Chappel thing from Australia?
Never seen two men so desperately hating each other as much as this
I know its a bit sad two old blokes still hating each other after all this time, but to see the vitriol was rather alarming!
Not sure who to believe, I can see Botham putting a glass to his face as I imagine Chappel was and still is a nasty piece of work who could talk himself into any trouble and Beefy was easily lit by anyone, especially if people were having a pop at his friends which is allegedly what Chappel was doing!
Seemed to me Both would probably call an end to it, but Chappel was having none of it, but did look a bit like a silly old man sadly.

Chappell looked remarkably shifty and uncomfortable. Neither of them came out of it at all well, but as they say rivers run deep.
Fascinating to compare with the friendship between Botham and Richards. My takeaway is that Botham is someone you perhaps could become mates with. Not sure with Chappell unless the same bus had run over both our mothers.

Watched it the other day, Luke, it is quite the watch, all seven minutes of it... Never seen two men so desperately hating each other as much as this

Agree with much of what you say. I'm obviously biased as a Somerset fan who loved Beefy but he did have a fuse and I can imagine that Chappell knew how to light it. As you say, Chappell comes off the worse, I think, because of his outright refusal to contribute anything positive to the chat.
Did anyone catch Harmapreet Kaur's absolute tantrum during the ICC Women's Championship match? Was judged to be out, remonstrated with the umpire, smashed the stumps with her bat, stormed off, later called the umpiring pathetic and then suggested they get on stage to share the trophy as they caused the tie. Initially she was fined and give demerit points but has now got a 2 match ban as well

Quite right too. Respect for the umpires is critical. She needed taking down a peg or two that is not acceptable. We don’t want the sport turning into football where rants and tantrums are commonplace.https://wisden.com/series-stories/bangladesh-women...
Is anyone here a cricket coach? I need to get out the house more and socialise with people. I have thought about playing cricket again and joining a club but have a nagging injury that I can't fix. I still might do that once I am better.
I was wondering about becoming a coach. Seems like the ECB Core Coach is about 300 quid. I know you need first aid, safeguarding and DBS on top but imagine they won't be huge costs and am happy to self fund.
Where would I look to actually coach people. Would local clubs want or need coaches for junior teams or schools? I would do this as a volunteer.
Just think it would be a good way to meet some people who share an interest and give something back

Really not worth the hassle, even in village standard, let only ECB leagues, so many taking even village oh so seriously mean umpires are becoming rarer and rarer as no one wants to do. Some of the behavior i've seen towards umps from both oppo and team mates over the years in embarrassing.
stick to coaching. the ecb website will give you all you need.

Speak to a few of your local clubs, they are usually always looking for volunteers to help with junior sections and coaching/first aid courses and safeguarding/DBS can usually the be funded through the club if you are a volunteer.I was wondering about becoming a coach. Umpiring is always an option as well as mentioned above, although it is a pretty thankless task as also mentioned above. From my experience it does seem to be a few idiots in every league that cause the bulk of the problems with umpires and in the 4 years I have been playing I have never seen anything more than a "Really?" for some interesting LBW calls.
