That was painful to watch.
I give it <24 hours and the wrist / back excuse is out there in the media rather than being gracious in defeat.
BBC Sport headlines with "..out of Wimbledon after being hampered by a back injury.."I give it <24 hours and the wrist / back excuse is out there in the media rather than being gracious in defeat.

Sun looked good but perhaps she was allowed to look good. Next round will tell us a lot.

Let's see how the qualifier does. Hopefully not out next round...
If she is then someone will be able to use the line "Sun is out at Wimbledon". Simple things and all that

Gutsy performance from Sun initially however but seemed to run out of momentum in the 2nd set.

Good on the world number 135 wildcard making it to the 4th round, and last Brit left in the draw.
Or she's completely useless and may as well stop playing.
Delete as appropriate depending just how British you are.
I'm not sure what the fuss is about Sun played the game of her life, they showed some stats in the 2nd set about her shot quality in the first 3 rounds it was 7.1 out of 10, against Raducanu it was 8.9. Or she's completely useless and may as well stop playing.

She was swinging full bore at everything and it was coming off, not many players could have coped with that accuracy and power.
Been over a month and been very quiet in here!
Since 24 April, Emma has played just 14 tennis matches. To be clear, that's 14 tennis matches in nearly 5 months. That's nearly half a year to put it into further conext.
She didn't fancy qualifying for Toronto, didn't fancy qualifying for the upcoming Cincy Open. So again, not much tennis being played. Who is advising her? Her sponsors, her parents, her coach, herself?
At your own pace!

What kind of logic measures number of tournament tennis matches as effort?Since 24 April, Emma has played just 14 tennis matches. To be clear, that's 14 tennis matches in nearly 5 months. That's nearly half a year to put it into further conext.

You make it sound like she's sat at home playing Playstation.
She didn't play in the Olympics, which means she's played in one or two tournaments less than the world number one.
Come back with how many training sessions she's done, then I'll take you seriously.
This looks ot me a good summary of where she is - https://www.tennis365.com/tennis-features/emma-rad...
Cincy open is a big event, and only one other event before the US Open is Cleveland.
She can train all she wants, but that is not the same as match practice. 3 matches since Wimbledon would leave her very underprepared.

Training sessions for what exactly? So she can skip qualifiers? The younger generations are often focusing on a more holistic life than just going all in for a decade or two. And if they’re good enough there’s enough money to fund them for life doing that too.

She doesn’t own any of us anything. She can do her own way of playing. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t. You could say Ash Barry was a waste of talent retiring so young, but that is what made her happy/worked for her when she made the decision. Emma may well have decided to do enough to stay in the top 100, and get some big pay days occasionally from the slams. That’s totally up to her.

Understand the mental health aspect but only if she (and others) were going non-stop at it for 6 or 7 years. The constant travel, hotels, being away from family, constant grind of training etc - that would be understandable. As I said before it does scream a bit like snowflake generation to me but maybe I'm just too old school? The younger generations are often focusing on a more holistic life than just going all in for a decade or two. The desire to win tournaments should mean more but in her bubble when money is thrown at you via off-court sponsorships, perhaps as you say, she's just happy to cruise around the Top100 whilst skipping tournaments that she doesn't quite fancy.
Which would be a shame as she may look back in time and carry that feeling that she never fully realised her potential. And that would be a shame.

All through this thread you just seem determined to prove that she isn’t living up to your expectations, standards or work-ethic.
We get it, you feel let down (although God knows why) but I suspect that nothing she would do, short of bleeding out of her racquet hand on court after beating the world number one in straight sets without losing a game, would satisfy you.
