And yet it was a fight that got more comments on here than many PPV heavyweight contests.

It's a fact of life that celebrity match ups are a big thing. Seeing celebrities and other sportsmen getting punched in the face is very compelling smile

I don't think it harms actual boxing.

Given EH is a pro athlete with every possible advantage, training gear, nutrition, coaches etc available to him, that was a piss poor effort.
I can only put it down to his arrogance that he'd be able to put Thor away with 1 punch in the 1st round.
He believed his own hype and that was his downfall.
Don't bother with a rematch Eddie

I agree it doesn't harm professional boxing. It does thought make some professional boxers jealous, when they see someone with far lower skill levels making far more money.

And as you say, the number of comments was very interesting. It really highlights how important it is for professional boxers to show their personality when they are building their career. Too many are pretty boring characters outside of the ring - they could make far more money if they had a bit of marketing nous.

The strongman/YouTube/celebrity ‘boxing’ doesn’t have any impact either way on boxing. It’s not for boxing fans, it’s for people interested in whatever the person involved is into and as it’s always a piss poor show it doesn’t then make the none-boxing audience interested in boxing.
I think some people do get upset that they are boxing in a leisure centre for a couple of grand when people can do this for a larger amount but they are bringing the audience.

I am trying to think of the celebrity fights I would like to see:

Carl Frampton vs John Fury would be a definite PPV for a start laugh

Wonder how Hall is coping with this?

He's getting absolutely pasted in the comments everywhere - even on his own vidoes. I'm actually starting to feel (marginally!) sorry for him. For someone with an ego as large as Hall's, this must be hard to swallow.

Bizarre the hills people choose to die on.

He wasted a couple of years building up to a few minutes of wiggling his left hand around followed by belly flopping at his opponent every now and then.

He could've qualified to become a nun or a helicopter pilot in the same amount of time.

And we need to give a h/t to Pugaris, who gave an accurate summary of how this would go down long before it occurred!
Haha I think I said Hall would pass out from exhaustion! He surprised me by a) lasting the distance and b) actually landing a bid shot and scoring a KD.

Don't think the Staffordshire Shell is going to take off, though.

Sunny Edwards got a decent win again at the weekend. Really hope him Vs Martinez gets made.

I watched Eddie doing some bag work and he looked pretty tasty, but in the actual bout wtf?!?

Makes you wonder if Eddie did any actual sparring, in fact it made me wonder if he’d ever stepped in ring before because I can honestly say that’s the worst boxing technique I’ve ever seen.
Anyone can look tasty on the bags.

I can't. The bag wins on points every time, more mobile, better defence, more elusive smile I know my limitations!

haha at least you know your limitations!

Eddie should stick to lifting big weights and roaring a lot.

I saw him going padwork and he looked comically bad and fought exactly the same. Hands down, just wildly swinging

Ok kids, settle down, strongman white collar doesn’t really warrant extended discussion on a boxing thread.

Warrington v Martinez anyone?

Really hope Warrington gets chinned but imagine he'll win a decision. Warrington vs Wood after that will be an absolute barnstormer, excited for that.

I haven’t really ever warmed to Warrington but I don’t massively dislike him either, I suppose I don’t care who wins but always like to see a good contest.

I just don't like that he's got himself a title shot again so quickly, I know it's business but it sucks.

He should have lost his belt to Galahad but got gifted a decision, then he didn't fight at all in 2020 and vacated his IBF belt. The spin was that it was because the IBF were refusing him a unification with Xu Can but that's bullst because a) if you've not fought in well over a year, you've got to fight your mandatory and b) it wouldn't have been a unification fight - Leo Santa Cruz held the world title, Xu Can had a 'regular' belt.

So he fights Lara because it turned out they couldn't make the Can fight anyway and got demolished. He has a rematch, headbutts the guy and gets away with a NC, refuses to fight him again and then Eddie puts him straight into a title fight. It just stinks, it should be Mauricio Lara getting to fight for that belt.

Yeah but Lara doesnt fill stadiums or big arenas and neither you or will bother our respective holes walking up to watch Lara, good as he is, at 4 or 5am live from the strip.

Yeah, I understand why it's happening but doesn't make it fair. Lara wouldn't be fighting in Vegas if he had a title shot, he'd be fighting Martinez in Spain.
