Christmas in Brighton for me, so I ran over to the Hove Park ParkRun this morning. Really good to see so many people there, very welcoming to a visitor and a good hard 5k in the middle of my 8 miles.

Happy Christmas all thumbup

Anyone doing any of the Christmas day parkruns scheduled for tomorrow? Will be over at Brueton Park in Solihull. Not sure I'll be busting out any PBs but seeing as I always normally run on Christmas day, it'd be rude not to.
Was going to but sadly the weather put paid to the Bromley one.

Planning on doing Peterborough on New Year's Day.

Until we set up Preston Park , Hove was my home run, this year they did Christmas day and we're doing New Year.

It was a good turn out - 253, I'm a bit worried now that we'll get that sort of numbers at New Year, 180 is our usual!

Ewan is being a bit modest, he seems to have finished first in 16.24 (not bad for middle of 8miles!) and racing or pacing local club member to a pb, sounds like a good day out! Care to comment on how the last few hundred m went!

Anyone do the Clumber Park run?

I am tempted to give it a go, I didn't used to be a bad runner 15 years ago at school etc.. I am a bit embarrassed that I may have the 'look' (not overweight atleast) but will be struggling halfway around! Not done anything particularly athletic for atleast 5 years..
Slowest runner this week took 50 mins, so you probably won't be shown up too badly, also it's 2 laps, you can always try 1 lap the first week and see how you get on.

(I haven't run it, just getting info from the website)

No one's logged on the parkrun PH wiki that they've run there so you might be the fastest PHer at Clumber!

Just give it a go, it's free after all and free parking (read details on webpage) so you can't go wrong!
Thanks for the reply and encouragement John. Will definitely have to give it a go; part of my problem is I am quite competitive.. I will be wanting to do sub 30 minutes - which of course sounds like a lifetime compared to the likes of Ewen et al!

The chap who finished just behind me went out hard from the start so it took me a mile or so to catch him. We then ran the next 1.5 miles together before I took it on with maybe 1k to go as I felt he was struggling on the short uphill sections.

I made the schoolboy error of not checking the position of the finish line before the run started, and eased up before the line when I passed a funnel marshall so it appeared a couple of seconds closer than it should have been. Good news that he PB'd though.

I hadn't run for the best part of 20 years when I did my first Parkrun earlier in the year. Did that in 25:25 which I have since improved to 23 minutes. It's free, it's only as competitive as you want it to be and it will be friendly.

Our family (dog included) dressed as Santa last Saturday and won a box of mince pies. My 3 kids love it and when they run somewhere easier than Orpington (very little tarmac and lots of mud) they run much quicker.

Cracking time! Hove Park is my local one but I didn;t attend yesterday. My window looks out onto the park, and I saw two people hurtling round at high speed (One in a blue vest, the other with a santa hat?) so I presume one of them was you

A slippy 21.25 today after the christmas festivities, a quick (for me) first two miles and then I felt like i died a bit. Still not done any speed work for abut 3 weeks so i am happy as its only 21 secs of my best.

It demonstrates the madness of park run though. Today i came 10th, with the same time last week i would have won by 46 seconds!

Well just did my first Parkrun in Weymouth. Also my first ever stand alone 5k I think.

I was surprised how many ppl there were. Didn't like the warmup, it actually made me feel a bit uncomfortable, and looking around I think others felt the same. On the other hand the volunteers in the course were great, calling out encouragement and showing the way.

The run itself was good, nice sunny morning, 5 degrees. I was a bit overdressed but needed a top with a pocket for my car keys and bar code!

Anyway, finished 4th, at a pace that is only 10secs/ km faster than my pre-injury HM pace, but it felt good and seems like my form and pace are slowly coming back - all that biking and swimming to maintain fitness wasn't a complete waste of time smile

Waiting to see my age grade ranking now...

Did my first foreign parkrun this morning, Fish Hoek south of Cape Town. 20 degrees and humid after rain last night on a bumpy sandy route, hard going especially after a few days hill walking, my calves were killing me by a couple of km in

That's why your time is the only significant thing at parkrun, on a week when there's a race that weekend the club runners won't be there and your position will go up.

I guess at a 5k race the winner will always do 15(?) mins because there's always someone good there, whereas at parkrun the good people might be giving it a miss because there's something serious on, which is as it should be, parkrun was never trying to take over from races.

The Weymouth warm up is painfully embarrassing. The run itself is not bad though, flat and mostly on nice tarmac paths. The bits that aren't tarmac can be very wet.when I ran it the finish funnel all felt a bit crowded.

Really nice, I ran with the wife so we had a nice easy cruise round. Really liked the course, nice mixture of terrain and the cheeky hill. I'm definitely going to come back and run it properly. Must be a lovely run in summertime.

Glad you enjoyed it! Its a good little course, was quite slippery this morning on that first mile though. See you back in the summertime!

Out tonight but not drinking so hoping to do the 'double header' - not expecting a PB though...

Well it certainly was not PB weather. Nice at Ashton Court when the asked to people to raise their hands if they were doing the double, and nearly every hand went up. smile
