I am unaware of the reasons behind people not liking Higgins - for me I'm always a fan of the 'old timers' in sports (especially snooker and darts) so I was very much hoping he'd win. I've not managed to watch much of the this year's tournament so far, but I was able to catch the final frames of this one, and very glad I saw it. Genuinely exciting stuff.
This is one of the reasons.https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2010/sep/08/john...

Exactly that.
As I said earlier in the thread, he should have received the same sanction as his manager Pat Mooney i.e. a lifetime ban from snooker.

They both got set-up, and he didn't know even about the meeting etc in advance. He got the fine and 6 month ban for his part in the whole thing, but didn't actually fix/throw a match. Mooney could have taken him down with him, but thankfully didn't.
But obviosly the armchair experts know better than the authorities.

Why do I find the MC Rob Baxter(?) so un loveable. (I struggled to think of the right word)
Why can't I warm to him? Is it that he just tries too hard, all that running around and stuff?
Rob Walker? Why can't I warm to him? Is it that he just tries too hard, all that running around and stuff?
So Judd made his 1000th century, fair play to him, a great achievement. Why oh why though do the commentators keep banging on about it, it's not like he's the first to do it, Ronnie in 2019 I think and Higgins earlier this week.
That's how much impression the bloke has made on me. I can't even remember his name.

The Fake Sheikh was jailed for engineering situations to get people to say/do things they wouldn't normally do - I'm happy to give Higgins the benefit of the doubt.
According to wiki:-On 4 December 2014, the Crown Prosecution Service investigated 25 cases where Mahmood gave evidence.[56] On 29 September 2015, it announced that Mahmood and his former driver Alan Smith had been charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice. The offences concern evidence given in the trial of R&B singer-songwriter Tulisa Contostavlos. The pair appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court.[57] on 20 November 2015.[58] Following a trial at the Old Bailey, Mahmood and Smith were found guilty of conspiring and intending to pervert the course of justice.[59] On 21 October 2016, Mahmoud was sentenced to 15 months and Smith received a suspended sentence of 12 months.

What is it about?https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/snooker/articles/czj3y...
Is it that he doesn't want to do the British tournaments, but can't refuse for fear of falling foul of the authorities, so lets his name go forward, then pulls out on medical grounds?

Selby/Allen doesn't exactly set my pulse racing.
What did you expect?!
They're 2 of the most boring players on the circuit for me.
Most of the others, I would rather turn the telly off.
