If she is then someone will be able to use the line "Sun is out at Wimbledon".

Simple things and all that smile

It was a very qualifier type performance. There was little patience or point building by Sun, she was just trying to hit winners all the time. She made a lot of errors but also made many of her attempted winners. Emma didn’t really have answers. Too many moon balls or half court balls that got the dismissive treatment they deserved from Sun.

I've always thought of her as a bit of a dud really.

Had a flash in the pan at the USO and then since then done nothing of note other than get injured and dine out on her success in the Open.

Sun punished any fluffy floated returns every time with clinical precision and power, which was many times.
Emma didn’t have her best game head on today, she didn’t seem to have the mental or game experience to adapt and overcome what was in front of her. Hopefully she will learn from this experience.

It's too early to say Emma won't make it. What she needs to do is play tennis matches. Lots of them. Not dodge qualifiers because she can or because the tennis balls are too heavy and then take a RnR break. She certainly shouldn't be tired after playing a couple of tournaments and then disappearing for 6 weeks. She should be plying her trade. Too many bad decisions from her IMO but she seems to be turning a corner. She seemed a lot stronger than I've seen her previously at Wimbledon, playing with a smile, which helped her game. Let's see what she does in the next few months... and the rest of the year.
Exactly. She needs to build match fitness and learn more game craft so she doesn’t get beaten by qualies like she did today. And that means getting out on the US hard court season and playing lots of matches. Last week went well for her, today was poor. She needs to kick on and get stuck in.

No shame in losing here, her opponent was very good.

No other British player got into the fourth round.

I think she will continue to improve. She has what it takes.

All those international tennis grand slam winners on this thread slating her.

She would whip every single one of you, you’d be knackered after the first few games.
Probably the case for every PTA player.

Maybe the lie down and free massage at the start of the third set got her too relaxed. She lost all of the momentum she was just starting to get after winning the second. Unless she really was injured then she should have just picked herself up and run it off.

Sun hit more winners in that match than any other female has in this year's competition so far, so credit where credits due for that, although you can clearly turn that around and say Raducanu gave her too many opportunities with floated and half court shots.

Yep, I was thinking along the same lines!! Emma definitely gave some soft returns - they were just nothing returns, short and slow.. Lulu just swatted them away.

Ditto. Sun has already beat the No. 8 and looks to be in top form.

If she can’t manage more than three matches without getting injured or being hampered she can’t really be a professional tennis player. Maybe it is her body. Maybe the way she plays makes her more prone to injury. Either case it isn’t looking good for her career. Another Laura Robinson.

Sun looked good but perhaps she was allowed to look good. Next round will tell us a lot.

I’ve said before and I’ll say it again, she needs a ruthless coach. Someone like Ivan Lendl.
She obviously has talent but her level of conditioning and application are stopping her from getting back to the level when she won the US open.

Good on the world number 135 wildcard making it to the 4th round, and last Brit left in the draw.

Or she's completely useless and may as well stop playing.

Delete as appropriate depending just how British you are.

Done for the TRUE Brits. It's very British to rip someone apart if they don't win every tournament.

I'm actually torn for England at the moment, it's pretty much the first time they haven't been hyped all the time to be the best/going to win the tournament (ready to tear into them once they lose) so I'm actually a bit behind them because of that, but at the same time they're playing so poorly/boringly that I don't think they deserve to win!

Pretty much the only reason she is getting so much focus was one incredible tournament. Doing what Sun is doing now. So of course every time she has issues which are completely normal she gets slated. It might be she's too injury prone, or doesn't have the focus. But almost no one gets to the top of the game, let alone stays there.

I am glad she did not play with SAM. Else she'd have blamed that match (regardless of outcome) on her loss against Sun.

She should not have accepted SAM's invite IMO. That was the mistake
