Well done Lulu Sun. Despite the errors, she was composed and totally fearless..

That was painful to watch.

I give it <24 hours and the wrist / back excuse is out there in the media rather than being gracious in defeat.

Yep.
She's a qualifier in the last 8. That's some achievement.

Sun is pretty terrible.
She was excellent IMO. She is a qualifier, barely made the 1st round of any major. Her mental strength against the home town favourite was incredible, some of her shots were just too powerful, incredible hitting in fact. To lose that 2nd set when she should have won it and to come back and smash Emma in the 3rd shows mental fortitude. Excellent display.

Well done Sun, well played.

That said Radu the only Brit to make last 16, keep fighting.

(Wrist issues clearly...)

In the eyes of the press, Emma will be back to being a half Chinese, half Romanian Canadian tomorrow frown

Good run up until today too.

Very impressive from Sun. Easy to freeze in a setting like that for the first time.

I think this confirms, unfortunately, that Emma is not destined for greatness. She had her fluke run at the US Open but she just doesn’t have what it takes to win big consistently.

Contrast this match with Alcaraz. He was facing an inspired Humbert and was 0-40 down on his own serve (I think it was 3-4 in the fourth set). So Humbert would have been close to closing out the set. Carlos won 6 of the next 7 points on his serve and then at 5-5 played an inspired return game, breaking Humbert and then served it out. Same age as Emma but made of different stuff and able to raise his game when needed.

Dude, Jaysus. I presume you don't follow the sport. 4th round Wimbledown is a massive boost to her career. Sun was fighting hard, anything can happen and it's great to see Emma back on track (IMO).

It's too early to say Emma won't make it. What she needs to do is play tennis matches. Lots of them. Not dodge qualifiers because she can or because the tennis balls are too heavy and then take a RnR break. She certainly shouldn't be tired after playing a couple of tournaments and then disappearing for 6 weeks. She should be plying her trade. Too many bad decisions from her IMO but she seems to be turning a corner. She seemed a lot stronger than I've seen her previously at Wimbledon, playing with a smile, which helped her game. Let's see what she does in the next few months... and the rest of the year.

Raducanu has found her level, and it's not very high.

She'll be "coming back from injury" for the remainder of her career, and completely under achieve because of it.

Maybe showing my age but I remember Bates breaking through to the last 16 as a massive event. Ymmv clearly..

As Emma's grass season concludes, I think her mental fortitude and commitment remain. Physically, she's still not quite there.
Coco Gauff would heve certainly taken her out in straight sets today...
Emma will be back because of her love of tennis..

All those international tennis grand slam winners on this thread slating her.

She would whip every single one of you, you’d be knackered after the first few games.

I’m not sure 4R is such a boost for a GS winner. Taking on a qualifier it was a golden chance to get to a quarter final.

What has that got to do with anything? Any professional tennis player would beat us but what does that prove? A very odd statement.

Sun doesn’t look like any ordinary qualifier. Just like ER wasn’t.

Let's see how the qualifier does. Hopefully not out next round...
