Mine didn't even look at it. I told him the model I was buying, showed him where it was going, he said to send him some pictures post installation. Before I had a chance to do so, my certificate arrived.

I guess that is for a SGC?

Is it possible to get an SGC without having a safe?. Something along the lines of restricted to use, but not ownership?. Local clay club has guns for rent very cheap for SGC holders, but non-holders need to go with an instructor which costs significantly more.

I don't want the expense/hassle of installing a safe that will never have a shotgun in it.

It is stored somewhere else, ie. a club, or friends safe. I would guess as you have a SGC, you can buy a Shotgun, then you need somewhere to store it, even if you don't intend to buy one. So if the clay club will let you list them for storage you are fine.

Or, you can make a gun room (it isn't a safe!), or even secure your house to a level the police are happy with (A friend who is a RFD had the Police say they would just sign off his whole house as it was secure enough for them).

But the best thing to do, rather than get conflicting responses on the internet, is call your local Firearms Licensing Dept, and ask them. As what they say goes (they work or Home Office guidelines, but Forces interpret them differently), and follow what they say, it should be smooth sailing.

Yes, I did that for a while, my file was marked that I had no suitable storage, so whenever I acquired a gun I made sure I sent an update to my local force and mentioned where it would be stored (in my case Bisley).

I don't actually want to buy my own shotgun (anything I would want to own is well out of my budget), was just thinking of having access to club gun rentals. These are currently restricted to SGC holders only.

I will check out local Police website and see if there is an easy contact for more direct answers.

That will be fine I am quite sure, but they will still mark your file accordingly, since your SGC itself would still allow you to go out and buy a gun.

I would just ring up your local firearms team and explain your situation they are normally jolly helpful.

Ive just found this thread too smile

My local club is Sporting Targets (if anybody want to join me for a day up there give me a pm!)

My first gun was a Bettinsoli Diamond Deluxe, but needed the money so that got sold late last year. Now I mainly use my AYA Yeoman SxS, but my girlfriend has a Hatsan Escort 20g which I really like.

I have also got an old Remington 1100 semi auto which is currently for sale as tbh I don't need it and is just taking up room in the cupboard. If anyone is interested give me a shout wink

And heres a couple of my old Bettinsoli,

Ahh, I'm with you! He's now working within a team; I've never met the chap personally (as it's not a team that I have any dealings with) you'll find me considerably further down the grid...

I'm guessing you are/have been involved in the sport?

Yes, he is now within a team, but as he is involved with the Pirelli test car, thought you might work with him. Was going to have lunch with him 2 weekends ago when over visiting friends, but the plan fell apart, after too much boozing!

Used to be involved in it, left by choice, but I have mates still trying to drag me back.

OP - Any further toward your decision?

Also, anyone here shoot at the Cross in Kinver?

Am likely to head over there tomorrow to see how many sporting birds I can miss.
