Without tempting fate, I think we have bowled pretty well so far. Take the de Kock innings out. Miller looks hungry though…

I think the bowlers/fielders have done their job particularly after the start they had. Only 2 batters did anything. Over to you lads.

That’s a big wicket. This track is not easy to push hard on.

Just back from a curry so missed the end. I honestly thought that we had that won. Still, de Kock was the difference and he played well. We recovered well with Brook and Livi, but couldn’t quite get there. We are still in with a shout beat the USA and then we are into one off games with our run rate where anything can happen.

Well that was a walloping. They are dangerous and fun to watch are the WI. They could easily beat SA who have been inconsistent in their batting. They wouldn’t have won without de Kock yesterday. He singlehandedly built that innings. WI v SA should be a good watch.
I still reckon we should have beaten SA yesterday so it’s disappointing to not have progression in our own hands.

Of course it could do in the Super 8’s but there are reserve days for the semis.

Excellent from Afghanistan doesn’t surprise me. Qualifying for the semis is all that matters how you get there doesn’t. Then the games are one off and anything can happen.

The reason this comp is interesting is the wickets. They are not just a bat fest which T20 often is. The IPL demonstrated that and tbh it got a little boring. It means results are never a given and provide the likes of Afghanistan or any team with the chance of winning against the odds. More importantly it brings bowlers into the game. Having said that they are not a side to be underestimated and have some quality players and it’s great to see them doing well. England will need to remember that later on today.

Why does a tricky pitch favor an underdog, more than a road in the high veldt?
Good question. It gives the so called weaker bowlers more a chance. Pace off/cutters etc, although Afghanistan do have a world class spinner and a left armer in this comp who is the leading wicket taker so these wickets suit him and he has the skill to exploit them. Most of the batsmen like a pitch where they can hit straight through the ball with impunity. They can then bully a lesser team with the bat. The weaker teams are used to playing on poorer wickets and maybe cope better. It is interesting because Kohli, Rohit have done very little. SA have gun batters again very little. It was only de Kock who performed and that was against pace. These are world class batters. Shots are even more risky. Look at Salt he is very aggressive and the wicket didn’t allow him to be the bully against SA. They took pace off and it’s tougher for batters on these wickets, because the ball can stick and the bounce is more variable.

Interesting question but it does seem to work that way sometimes and the game is more interesting for it. Not always, but it can produce surprise results. The team that wins is the one that adapts best to the conditions.

Probably doesn’t answer your question though smile
