Why would you join an MMA thread just to denigrate the people who enjoy it?
Shouldn't you be in the Porsche forum?
wink

Awesome performance by Silva. Made Forrest look like an amateur.

It was pretty amateurish walking straight towards Silva and opening up like that, but Silva having his hands at his sides must have been too tempting. It's like the Matrix watching Silva's head movement.
Talk about dropping someone.

Look Peter Andre, I know you must be bitter about they way things have gone, but to tar everyone with the same brush is a trifle... silly.

Pip pip.

Right my view on Anderson has completly changed after that fight. I knew he was one of the best.

I actually saw him reacting to the crowd and looked suprised to get boo'd.

IF machida loses belt (can't see that happening soon) I think he is going to be at the top of the tree for the 205 belt.

Simply awesome and made Forrest look foolish.

MMA is still nothing like an actual fight though is it? It's a controlled environment just the same as boxing is.
How many takedowns do you see in a 'real' fight?

Well I've done it before.
Take downs are only good in a controled envoiroments (on the mat with rules) too many people these days think nothing of biting off your nose, ears or lips.
It was when someone took a brave but unwise swing at me in college once. He was on his own with no drunk mates around

Thanks for that well thought out input.

I was happy to see two of my faves put on very impressive performances in the headline fights. Silva is just scary, dropping someone with a jab while moving backwards is amazing. Florian's game plan seemed to be to tire Penn out, shame his conditioning has improved tons since GSP. Setting up the RNC with those heel kicks to the liver was fab.

Amir Sodalla's fight was stopped way too soon.

Oh yeah, forgot to add, did anyone watch any of the WEC fights from this weekend?

the torres ending was strange, he was all over the other guy and then he got hit. he took a few shots when he was out too.

Yup. Curran vs Mizugaki was great.

the WEC puzzles me, why not just lump it in with the UFC? The WEC fighters all get crappy pay because of the lack of PPV and the UFC sometimes struggles to get title defences on its PPV's as theres so few titles. So why not put the bigger WEC fights on the UFC cards. Faber vs Brown 1 and 2 would easily have drawn a decent viewership as would torres, even with last nights fight.

They think that the lighter weight guys are not as big a draw as the bigger guys. I'm not sure how true this is but I can imagine it's pretty accurate of casual fans.

Id have agreed too but the biggest boxing fights of recent times have been at 140ishlbs, I think the public are more accepting of smaller guys these days.

Very true. But that could be more down to the relative lack of interesting stuff going on in the heavier weights.

In recent years 205 has been very exciting in American MMA.

Perhaps in the future more focus will be put on the smaller guys. I hope so any way, even though I have no chance of ever getting that light I love watching fw and bw fights.

I think thats probably true for boxing, the heavier weight classes are awful and have been for a while now. Im not sure mma is hampered in the same way though, the very fact LHW has always been the premier weight class instead of Heavyweight kind of shows that mma fans will follow the divisions with the best fights. Plus the UFC essentailly have a monopoly, that gives them the ability to build and hype up anyone they want, to hook in the casual fans along with the proper fans who know all about the smaller guys skills.

I wouldn't say LHW has always been the premier division, just that the UFC has never had the majority of the best fighters at HW like they do from 170-205.

LHW or MW as 205 was in Pride has always been the most popular division, HW has always been a bit spread out over the orgs, apart from in the Pride days when it was clearly the best group of heavyweights in one org. even at that time though LHW in the UFC was bigger and MW in Pride had Wandy, Dan, Rampage, Shogun, Sakuraba and was more popular.

Don't talk about Saku fighting at 205, it depresses me frown

He never should have taken so many fights against people much bigger than him.
