The Old Red Lion in Litchborough is holding a beer festival from Sat 30th April to Monday 2nd May inclusive. There will in excess of 15 different beers and ciders and BBQ food available and all-day entertainment on the Monday, including live music in the evening.

The Old Red Lion is remarkable for being a village pub that has re-opened - read the story in the Independent:
http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/food-and-d...

To reassure the cynics amongst you, I am not on commission nor am I in any way connected with the pub (other than drinking and occasionally getting horribly drunk there) wink I just think it's bloomin' marvellous that a village pub has opened rather than closed and hope these guys get a huge amount of support. Monday 2nd May 2011 is the 1st anniversary of the pub reopening.

Hope to see you there!

This being PH, it may interest you to know that the particularly 'nice' road from the A5 to the B4525 (and from the B4525 to the A5, funnily enough) runs right through Litchborough....

Not quite the same as when Tom was there but as you say great news

It's on here too - http://northantscamra.referata.com/wiki/Beer_Festi...

And the Northants CAMRA are having an open meeting and presentation for the pub being Pub of the Season on Monday 6th June - http://northantscamra.referata.com/wiki/Branch_Dia...

PH bit - I often promote that road (it was formerly the B4525) plenty of good Northants countyside and plenty of good pubs near it

Very true - in some ways very much better but in as many ways, not quite as good! Tom's food was the best pub grub I'd ever had - they train 'em good in the catering corps. yes

The village held its collective breath when the brewery put the pub up for sale, horrified at the possibility of residential development.... There are plenty of people who are grateful to the Rogers family and want to support them in their endeavours.

Let's hope the weather is good and lots of PHers are tempted out to try the old B4525 and a bit of refreshment at the Old Red Lion on the way! smile

popped in for a quick couple of halves whilst enjoying the excellent roads around that way

those toilets are a bit different from Tom's time

heard tales of Tom's early days of cooking there

more excellent driving roads and a nip back for another half and to keep Mrs Beer hydrated - just got the loyalty card full when we had to go - so we'll have to pop back tommorow on the pub's anniversary to get our free half - life can sometimes be very hard

Excellent! Glad you got there and that you enjoyed it smile The new loos are quite something aren't they?! Worth a visit....

We managed to spend rather longer there on Sunday than we had intended (well, time kind of loses its significance after the third pint....) but unfortunately didn't make it back on Monday, despite best intentions. Was looking forward to Elvis and the final of the Mr and Mrs competition biggrin

We just had to pop back early afternoon Monday to get our free half, plus I wasn't driving back so could enjoy a few halves

Very pleasant

And don’t forget, as above, the Pub of the Season presentation on Monday 6th June and Northants CAMRA open meeting - http://northantscamra.referata.com/wiki/Branch_Dia...
