Motorcycle parking @ Kettering Station
Discussion
Kettering bike parking is free still, though with the evils of Eastmidlands Trains no guarantee it will remain so.
Market Harboro train service is vastly better than Kettering, proper non stop fast services, (which were stolen from Kettering who no get the cr@p all stops service), though travel from Harboro' add's £1.5 - 2k a year to your season ticket!
In my experinece the only thing you can bank on is the price going up and service going down!
In 10 years parking has gone up around 125%, tickets around 75%, journey times increased by around 10 minutes, (plus a healthy yomp to the front of the sation), return service in the evening down by 50% to Kettering. No free coffee and no seats reservations.
On the plus side it's quite reliable and very rare you don't get a seat at Kettering, Wellingboro is another matter....

Yep, I have previously commuted from Kettering getting the 6.56am train, dumping my car at the station - just never knew about the bike parking.
It's good that it is free to park a motorbike, but I ended up rejecting the job offer anyway.
I totally agree about the service going downhill! If I remember rightly, it was somewhere round December 08 when they stopped the free tea and coffee (whilst simultaneously putting the fare up) - which peeved me somewhat!
Getting back in the evenings is, as you have rightly pointed out, somewhat of a squeeze too.
Mkt H would have cost me more in time to get too and from, significantly more petrol and more cash for the season ticket - so was always out of the question on all counts.
Wellingborough - no advantage over using Kettering station for me - I'd rather pay the little extra, save on fuel and time getting there and not have to struggle to get a seat (I nearly always head for the 'quiet' coach)

Always used to get the 6:56 too, till it vanished in the EMT 'improvements'. 6:44 stops everywhere or 7:09 replaced it. So 6:33 for me now, gets in few minutes earlier than the old 6:56 did!Yep, I have previously commuted from Kettering getting the 6.56am train, dumping my car at the station - just never knew about the bike parking.
