Obviously, thousands of innocent children and kittens will die as a result.

Puts paid to the "they're all about road safety, not making money" argument though.

Lets hope that people don't get silly on the roads.

I much prefer to look at the road and surrounds for hazards, rather than looking at my speedo (to make sure I am at/under the limit).

Will the police set up more mobile check points when the camera go?

I doubt it. They've got better things to do.

Why would you need speed cameras given the state of the roads round here?

I know where all the speed cameras are where I drive so it's not actually an issue

As someone said, the roads are terrible so it's not like you can go fast in most places. I spend more time sitting in jams and at traffic lights while avoiding potholes than actually driving.

I only go through one regularly, and there isnt much speeding there anyway due to it being just after a roundabout!
There is one on the main road through our village though, which really helps get the traffic down to 40 and gives you a chance to pull out when its busy.
Will be interesting to see if that makes much difference if they remove it

Thing is, they won't remove the cameras, just turn them off. And after years of "conditioning" even when you know it's off, you just can't speed past it!!!
