Just driven past there and I reckon you'll be lucky. They've got the field opposite marked as a car park and they are charging £15 per adult and £5 per child.

I think the main road will be coned to stop parking.

Is the airshow just Sunday or Saturday as well?

ETA: Google it say just Sunday. Phew! My Rover P5 run is passing through on Saturday

A few of us mentioned this in the Aviator thread below.

Looks like it could be dry.

Fingers crossed smile Mind you, as soon as I start packing up a picnic, the thunderclouds are sure to come rolling on in.

A note to anyone that is going.

If you need food the Pilot's mess will be open to the public.

It's more cafeteria than the hotel but good bacon baps and mugs of tea.

Likely to be less queuing too and less invasive on the wallet.

The weather forecast has improved a lot and we're hoping for some good long periods of sunshine. Hope nobody is tempted to try and view from local roads instead of paying to get in - it's 100% in aid of the local air ambulance after all. At past shows their helo has been on the ground (and we're hoping to have it there for part of the day this year) and they had to leave early to attend an accident just minutes away from the aerodrome.

Shame on XH558 for not appearing. Weather wasn't good enough to display at Hurn so didn't bother with anyone else...When you rely on peoples's charity to stay in the air, you really ought to try and go the extra mile and not leave 000's disappointed.

It was a little bit, thanks to yesterday's monsoon. I was very tempted to do some donuts on the damp grass, but I'm sure the Hi-Viz gang wouldn't have been too impressed.

I discovered I could have saved myself twelve quid by taking the Caterham in as a "Classic" car - there was a bloke there with an 06 plate Morgan! (Not that I begrudge paying the entrance fee at all, I just didn't think the 7 would have been considered "classic" enough).

A great day though and couldn't have asked for better weather - anyone got any aftersun?

Ah, I take it the Vulcan didn't turn up? I sloped off at about 1730, as the battery in my camera had died and I was bursting for a pee (queues for the loos a mile long).

I'm gutted that it was a no-show, but secretly glad I didn't miss it.

A few of my photos:

You should have taken the 7 and driven it into the classic area as its defo a special car , me and a 7'er mate I bumped into would have appreciated seeing it. Didn't see the Hurricane or the Lanc , had to go at 11.30am as swmbo needed help with lunch preperation , some great ww1 stuff all the same plus military vehicles , liked the Landy with Milan launcher , useful in a traffic jam or for dispersing tailgaters !

ETA: I gues they are (or at least are based on) the SAS's "company cars" in the Gulf.

Big shame about the Vulcan, but what a spectacular show otherwise. We've never been before but thought we'd spend the £40 entrance fee in order to see the Vulcan. So glad that we did, will be looking for next years dates so I get organised enough to get tickets in advance.

I think I must have gone to a different Sywell show to everybody else. The one I went to was poorly organised, with a one hour traffic jam to get into it. There were hardly any toilets and the '10 minute' wait for food in the restaurant was more like thirty!

There was a no show from the Vulcan (no surprise there!) and the Red Arrows. A few others were also missing.

Once the show was over, we had to wait - penned up like cattle - before we could cross the road to the car park. And then we had a mad scrum of several thousand(?) cars trying to get out of one small exit, with little guidance from the marshalls.

All in all, a feckin disgrace and a st venue.

The only reason I don't want my money back is that the Air Ambulance needs it (and where was that?).

I think I may have seen you and yours - heading towards the fence nearest the action?

By the way, it's not on next year - 2012 will be the next one.

It was there early on in the proceedings (from about 1030), but it may have had to leave.

Unbelievably, it sometimes has better things to do than hang around at air shows. rolleyes

You lucky bugger. It was hellish. Finally made it to the road at about quarter to eight.

The lack of traffic management completely spoiled it for me. I think it is fair to say that Sywell were unprepared for such a huge turnout. They needed police help and road closures/1 way systems.

And I have to say that some of the individual marshalls were great. EG One lady (wo)manning the exit was bringing some order to the chaos. But there were none inside the overspill car park, so it was bedlam.

Quite a few people in off roaders made use of an inpromptu exit at the opposite end of the field. One of the marshalls was overhead by the queue to it as saying he was going to close the gate. He'd have been lynched.

I took father and farther-in-law ( in wheel chair ) lots to see , got in and out OK . We had a very enjoyable afternoon . Lots of complaints in the ques going in , more organisation needed next time .
No concessions so £45 to get in is not cheap its a good cause but they should do better .
