you wait until Leicestershire start

Only way round this is to divert thro' villages just off the A5199 (or A50 when we used to travel it) to avoid the area they're working on, you'll see different villages you've never been to before each day or so, much more interesting than rushing home, take your time enjoy the countryside, call in for a half at a lovely village pub and relax for a while

There's potholes needing winching equipment to escape from on some of the back roads around here laugh You're damned if you do and damned if you don't at the mo...

Can't really see why they're spending all the cash though. I travel the road most days and can't remember seeing an "off" in the last six years (visible signs thereof at least).
Likewise, I've lost count of how many accidents at the Naseby Cold Ashby crossroads where there's loads of room for a roundabout that would probably help.

Never mind, life goes on rolleyes

Edited to say... Come to think, there was an "off"... Guy had a heart attack along a straight between Creaton and Thornby

Why is it they decide to use loose chippings in some places, and lovely smooth black tarmac in others?

Surface dressing is tens of pounds per metre, whereas blacktop is thousands. Surface dressing is done to 'protect' the blacktop from wear and weather

Try cycling along a recently done road and having chips sprayed at you! furious

What a nightmare the A6166 near Kettering has also been relaid I was going along there at the weekend with stones flying everywhere and one has made a hole in my front bumper.

Does anyone know if you can get a front bumper repaired locally to fill a hole and respray as I don't really fancy paying about 1k for a new front bumper on the Porsche.

I feel for you. I thought I had it bad with a cracked windscreen that was only fitted a couple of months ago.

They've just completed a section of road, a508 south of M1 Junction 15, with the 'wonderous' gravel overlay.

Makes me chuckle the signs they put up afterwards.....20 mph MAX.....skid risk....ha, great on a main road with loads of use at peak times with a normal speed limit of 60.

Not surprised with the skid risk though as they seem to be attempting to glue gravel to the road over the top of the nice new smooth black tarmac laid not more than a couple of months before.

May I mention (hoping someone from the highways agency is listening) the black tarmac is so much nicer in my coilovered, bucketed & harnessed RS 172 Cup. Also with no TC the gravel is not so entertaining...furious not to mention at rush hour on the way home Monday, workmen with gravel (read: leaf) blowers, forcing all the 'excess' gravel back onto the highway....onto my bodywork and making the road surface even more loose....grrr.

So far it hasn't damaged the paint work too much, I feel for you guys who have had some nasty dings as a result of the chippings!

And just think how many £££ the surfacers are saving on RoadRoller hire by using the general motoring public to finish the job for them !! they did this recently on the road outside my house and i was kind enough to get out the rally car (on gravel tyres) and go back and forth a few times to smooth out a few of the bits they missed................. tongue out

I saw that on Saturday, just shows what your up against.
I felt a right prat! Came off the A14, overtook a very slow car / caravan combo just before Thornby, and unwittingly drove into one of the newly chipped stretches. Lo and behold, halfway through my crawl the bloody car and caravan caught me up! I bet I know what the driver was saying!

My bonnet and front wings have been peppered with small chips folowwing the A508 dressing, and I was really careful too.Useless tw*ts.Why can't they do the job properly and roll it then get the road sweepers to collect all the loose chippings.I bet the Chips Away guys and windscreen companies are loving it!!
