Folks

For a number of reasons, not least because I have had it 6 years and fancy a change, I am thinking of selling my Tuscan when I get back from Iraq (if anyone is interested then PM me), and fancy buying a classic Jag (or similar), probably a MkII, a reasonably cheap and low spec one, and upgrading the suspension, brakes, motor, etc. and keeping it as a daily drive rather than a classic original.

Does anyone know anybody good, reasonably priced and close to Nortampton (within reason) where I could get work and servicing done ?

For that matter, does anybody know anyone with such a car that they might want to sell and wouldn't be mortally offended if I moved away from the original ?

Thanks in advance

Ian

MKII Jags have always been popular and so pricey

Any classic you'd best test drive as many good examples as possible to remind you how different they are to modern cars even when updated/upgraded

General rule of thumb buy the very best example you can afford and that will probably be well above your first budget figure

It's lot less expensive generally to pay more at the start than as you go along so why not look at cars that have already been made suitable for everyday use which will probably be MKII alternatives

I've PMed you - no we can't afford a Cerbie (memory lapse) Tuscan we've already done way more than our bit for the English motor ecomomy

Some sporty, and others not so, alternatives you might also consider such as;

Jag XJ or (old) S type (cheaper and better than MkII possibly),
Daimler 250,
Triumph 2000, 2500,
Rover P5B, P6 (3500 or 3500S - manual), SD1 (Vitesse),
Wolseley Six, Austin 3 litre (large land crabs),
Vanden Plas 3 litre and 4 litre R

Thanks SB, I take your point about buying it with the work already done and it's definately not off the radar.

I'll take a look at some of the other models you suggest as well but I've pretty much set my heart on a MkII

Just for clarity (in case anyone was thinking of buying my TVR) it's a Mk1 Tuscan Red Rose).

Upgrades to one of these are relatively easy/cheap due to the continuation of many parts and of course the engines into Land Rovers/Range Rovers:

You're welcome to come and have a poke around mine although I am about t spend a few quid on the interior so its not mint.

An IMMACULATE P5B can be had for £12 - £15K and possibly less since the news tonight that petrol could reach £10 a litre.

A friend of mine has an XJS-V12 for sale which is a good runner and in pretty good nick and he is open to offers around £2k but I'm sure he would go lower if his missus wasn't around!!! It does 18mpg on a run which isn't too bad considering.
