I need to book a restaurant for this weekend but have no idea where to go - Can anyone recommend a really good one? Not interested in typical chain restaurants - want something a bit individual - In town we used to go to places like Brabenecs, Papa Cino's, and Mem Saab, but I'm not sure what these are like nowadays (other than Mem Saab)....It doesnt have to be in town, am quite happy to go to surrounding villages.

Any recommendations gratefully received as normal restaurant review websites aren't helping!

Cheers!

Good choice - butcher's counter at the back where you choose your cut of meat or fish and then they cook it to your pref. Snoot is equally good for a steak.

If you're down at the bottom end of the county, check out The Swan at Salford and the Wavendon Arms. Both v. good and close to Moulsoe.

Has anyone been to Brabenecs on the Welly Road since it changed hands? Used to love the food in there but would like to know if it's still as good now...

Well, that was all rather disappointing - Most of us thought we'd choose some steak from the meat counter, when the meals were served, 4 out of the 6 were completely wrong. This was rectified quickly and the food was actually quite nice, but then the bill came out and it was totally wrong - charging us for coffees that we didn't have, £52 for 3x 4oz bits of ostrich steak!!(should've been £24) - They changed the bill and knocked 10% off, then it came back and was still completely wrong - The manager didn't even get involved and was more interested in playing games on his phone at the bar, and left it all up to the poor waitress to sort out (felt quite sorry for her in the end).

Shame really as it was a nice place, the service from the waitress was very good, and the food was nice - maybe we were just unlucky but considering the place wasn't even busy, getting 4 out of 6 meals wrong and then charging completely wrong is pretty poor in my book......

The steaks are very good, and desserts! Good choice

Have found the Fox and Hounds can now be a bit hit and miss. Sometimes the food is decidedly average, and overpriced.

Always had a good meal at the Stuffed Olive. The Church is also somewhere a bit different but can be a bit average for the price

When did Brabenecs change hands? I've always had excellent meals there.

If you're on Welly road and fancy something different Dangs Vietnamese restaurant is well worth a visit, good food and cheap!

The Navigation Inn at Castlethorpe

They also have a 'fine' dining area attached to it called Camerons. Food has always been spot on when I've been there.
